Region Lock

Can anyone confirm what it means when they implement Region Lock for people who play with friends from another zone? I live in Europe, and my friend that I play with lives in the US East, so we use EU as primary, and US East, as Secondary zone.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if they put in Region Lock technically speaking we can no longer play together?

Most likely they will lock you to your closest server which means you can not select servers anymore
When region lock happens you will not be able to play with friends from other regions.
Because if you could it would be so easy to avoid region lock.

At the moment no one actually knows any details.

Ot might be a region lock for random teams, but still allow you to play with friends overseas.

It might be a ping lock that boots you if your ping crosses a threshold.

We just don't know at this point.

I recently moved to another country and I don't really have a server on their list. I'm just between Europe and Asia which both hovering on 130 ping on my end. How would that work exactly?

There's a lot of unanswered questions about it. We honestly just have to wait to see how they implement it.

The regional lock is somewhat mitigated for friends who want to play together, that you can play together limited. Presumably on the server of the group leader, but if there are two from the USA and one from Europe, the individual will be added to the servers of the USA - but if this has a too high ping, probably then unfortunately fly. Accordingly, you could get a server as a team from different regions, where all get the same ping... Otherwise, everyone gets his server, which is closest to him.

They only mentioned that they’re planing to add something similar to region lock in the future
Those are Just words
It took 3 years to add new map since they mentioned that they’re working on it
I hope it won’t happen any time soon

As you can see the problem starts in THEIR infrastructure....response times like they send out the IP packets painted on postcards

If region lock is implemented, I can definitely see a lot of Hunt players using VPN services if they haven't already. A US player who was friends in Europe will still continue to play with them if they have VPNs. A VPN is an easy way to get around region lock. Ping lock is a more difficult one as regardless if a VPN is used, the ping threshold defined by the server will dictate of who can or cannot be on the server VPN or no VPN.

For those of you who don't use VPNs, now is the time to start using them! And not just for the sake of being able to still play with friends from other regions, but even more importantly - reasons of online security and privacy as the online world is more dangerous than ever. Happy Hunting!

Ich könnte seit 5 Tagen nur noch kotzen! Ich hab jetzt fast bei jedem Spiel ein Ping von 150 - 250! In einem von 10 Spielen ist er mal wieder bei 5-7 wie er sonst war.. das Game ist einfach unspielbar geworden.

Imho, they need to seek bottlenecks instead implementing unnecessary features.

If i had to guess if you host and invite a friend, they will be carried across. That is typically how it works in games.

Such a massive loop hole to be honest but it would stop randoms though so probably most of the people server hopping anyway.
