Training mode after update 1.12 is now confined to the same compound with the same amount of enemies and types, this mode comes in two difficulties with ONE TIME REWARD only for each difficulty.
You will have to progress (i.e. unlocking items and weapons) through multiplayer with PvP enforced.
If you love the atmosphere and setting of this game, you will have to play at times with the lowest player count in your region, with fingers cross you will land into an empty server but yourselves.
Latest Hunt Showdown dev vlog did mention custom servers coming next year, however no mentions of account or character progressions with it.
IMHO not worth the purchase for a PvE experience.
A bit of a long read but hope it answers your question.
