Opinions on throwing knives?
I find them to be just straight up weaker than throwing axes in every regard, and their capacity count doesn't make up for that. I wanted to recommend an idea (Namely, giving throwing knives a poison effect) but I thought I'd ask what people's actual opinions on throwing knives were first before saying something like that.

After all, I may find them to be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ but that doesn't necessarily mean they're objectively bad.

I almost always take throwing knives for utility - killing horses, dog / chicken cage lanterns and out-of-reach hives. Especially useful against Scrappy too (and other bosses). Throwing axes are great but IMO two things put them behind throwing knives - you only get two of them and their trajectory limits their range somewhat. Lose both axes and there goes your utility. Whereas knives you get six, so far less likely to run out when you need them.

I appreciate some take a silenced Nagant or hand crossbow to replace throwing knife utility, but that takes up a valuable side-arm slot for PvE. I don't fancy running around a map with a shotgun and a hand crossbow as I'd have zero capacity to seriously hurt any Hunter over about 20m metres away. Sure the Nagant is more effective than knives, but wasting ammo on AI and environment isn't a great idea IMO. Weapon slot choices should always be strictly for having PvP in mind.

Throwing knives are inferior to throwing axes, once you adapt the playstyle of getting close and then throwing the axe. This way you minimize annoyance by serverside despawns and 1shot most AI. Against multiple foes it can become a hassle but is manageable imo.

Throwing knives need a poison coating to become useful again.
They only 2 shot an armored when you pull them out aswell, and thus trigger way more unnecessary sound traps than throwing axes and are riskier vs. concertina armored.
Also they lose the ability to cut concertina wire when using assailant, but gain acceptable stab damage.

Axes are more versatile thus better is my final judgement.
This is kind of my entire position as well; Strictly worse than axes in every way, and a utility buff with some functionality rather than just a number tweak would help (Such as poison tip).

Could cause issues, i.e., now throwing knives can one-shot immolators, but I guess that's something the dev team could consider when spitballing new ideas, if they even want to change them.

Exactly. But even when you'd be able to remove immolators, you'd trigger the soundtrap from it exploding, just like poison arrows do, since the damage type is not blunt.
However, this'd be very interesting as a covert movement tool, especially vs. water devils.
The axes still feature better wire cutting utility and are deadly in melee, so pick your poison i guess XD

But a poison coating is necessary imo.

My only issue with this perspective is that knives take 2x as many knives for most things... Which means you've basically got 3 knives vs 2 axes, so it's a much closer comparison. Both axes and knives suffer from the "disappearing completely because crytek lol" so axes definitely get impacted there more... But I almost always take frontiersman for this reason.

Also, if I want range for utility, I usually take silenced pistol or, more often, hand crossbow. Hand crossbow just gives more utility than both axes and knives, and is actually functionally usable in combat, so it's not a "You've lost your sidearm!" moment, it's still basically a shotgun with slugs, without piercing.

Hand crossbow, silenced nagant or throwing axes are just better in everyway

Hand crossbow and nagant are both 1 slot weapons, what's stopping you from using knives and axes lmao
I swear play Hunt more, maybe you'll understand basic logic someday kid.
Why would I waste a tool slot on knives, I bring axes, and they're recoverable, why would I need too recoverable silent tools
For AI and for PVP im a crossbow main anyways crossbow is amazing just chad it out run throwing axe and knives at same time be annoying and just keep yeeting them at people while they are confused
