The only good custom ammo for Bomb Lance is steel balls, it basically changes this weapon into a shotgun with a "♥♥♥♥ it let's melee" option. It's good because you don't have to rely on your basic explosive shot (if they have bulwark you won't kill them), but at the same time you can't kill bosses as fast.
How do you close the gap between snipers? You don't. You either try to push with your revolver or leave the area that they're watching.
If your enemy has a shotgun other than romero - you're dead.
If they see you're charging at them - try to strafe and make them miss their shots. Heavy strike ALWAYS one-shots other hunters, people know it and sometimes they tend to panic.
DON'T use your light strike against hunters. Yes, it has slightly more range than the heavy strike but if you hit their arm you won't one-shot them.
Try to not make it so obvious that you have a bomb lance. In open fields always have your revolver in hand, so that if anyone sees you, they might not notice you run the weapon.
Use whispersmith just so that people won't hear your Bomb Lance being pulled out.
Enjoy
