Honestly: It is just you at the moment.
Lets talk again when you have like 300 hours more in the game...
and you will change your opinion and see that AI is barely a problem.
Hardest to deal with are dogs by far. It can get a bit dangerous if you are midfight with other players and you ignore AI that is pushing you tho.
Basically just melee them in the head and you are good. Throwing knives/axes are great for efficient, silent and fast map traversal.
Being forced to kill other players in order to have fun is not the way to play this game.
Having AI playing a major factor in the game and being able to use it or being damaged from it is the PART of Hunt Showdown. Sorry for being so categoric.
No it's not excessive , it's actually great, having no challenge from AI makes the game actually something worth uninstalling, and destroys the core elements of what is Hunt showdown. There are areas that are not fancied by the NPCs! you ust need to be a good hunter to go in those areas... were NPC don't like to feed because they can't find their food.
Read the monstrum books or just use your imagination, you will find a way not to be overwhelmed.
And another suggestion: go ballistic if you feel it's overwhelming, arm yourself to respond to that challenge and then I guess pay the consequences if you make too much noise .. or for too long.
Arm yourself to dominate that AI.. instead of asking devs to destroy the fun for all.
If you play solo as I like to do if not with a team mate or a random that is capable to cooperate and has a freaking mic... having ton of AI allows you to have something to shoot, something to do in the map... MAPS ARE HUGE.
You're new, so it's "scary" for a few hundred hours. You can't really not set anything off, stuff is too crowded together and blocks your path, clues, etc.
As long as you're not constantly setting off crows and dog cages, I wouldn't worry too much about being super quiet, it often isn't worth the effort.
Using stamina efficient melee like knuckle knife while always aiming for the head. Use ranged options like throwing axes for hives. Stam shots just trumps everything.
