Is this game like tarkov?
I'm looking for an alternative game to tarkov / the cycle, does this game fit in this category?

Roughly.
Hunt: Showdown is an extraction Shooter like Tarkov.

But the gameplay is still very different. The most obvious being the setting and the old style guns.
There's no inventory management in Hunt. You can loot enemies weapons from the battle field but they replace your current weapon.

Hunt has way more PVP and player interaction in maps compared to Tarkov. And you hunt and kill bosses while there's others doing the same thing. They're completely different.

way more focused on PvP and waaay less looting. Also no survival game mechanics.
No, Hunt is not really a looter in that you drop and go farm for items. There's only one or two bosses per map, and the objective of the round is finding their lairs, killing them, and extracting with the token they drop. Other players will try to prevent you from doing that via PvP.

- There's no crafting either.
- There's no armour - you die in two shots to the torso from almost every weapon from within their effective range, sometimes even from just one shot. A player with 2 hours can easily wipe you in 2 shots with their cheap $50 loadout, even if you are carrying a >$1000 loadout and have 1000 hours in the game.
Depending on how you play Tarkov and how much you depend on gear over there, it may be a problem for you. It will also be an issue if you are the type of Tarkov player that believe people with 1k hours deserve more benefits than "hatchling" players who have just started playing. It's mostly equal grounds here.

- Movement is more arcade.
- There are revives in this game, your teammates may revive you several times per round. Unlike in Tarkov, where you die once and you are out of the round.
- No insurance. If you get put out of the round, you lose your kit.
- No weapon modularity - you just buy the full weapon from the NPC market and that's it.

You can spectate after you die, so if someone is cheating, you will know.

In Tarkov cheaters run wild with no way of getting proof.

Also, I agree with the above comment, Nailed it.

Hunt is more about the pvp than the looting.

If your four stars then i understand your point of view, but this game is not about extracting with the bounty. the bosses are hot spots for engagement, the objective is to kill other players and have fun.
I dont think it's about stars, it's about how many rounds someone has played. People who have played thousands of rounds may drop and go PvP and ignore the boss - most newish players such as the OP would obviously go play the objective as the game directs them to do.

They are somewhat similar. All of my friends that like Tarkov love Hunt so I would recommend it.
