If you want to use it in PvP it has more RNG spread with more potential damage but it also can be less damage.
Shotguns used to make people bleed, but no longer. Only the flechette ammo makes players bleed.
Plus, you're giving up wallbangs, penny shot can't even pen a single layer of wood.
That all said, I still find it fun to take out now and then. It feels pretty good flexing on people by using an objectively bad round and spraying money at them with a Clown & Cringe.
-Bonus damage against PvE.
-Pellets become more RNG for better or for worse.(usually worse)
