Best weapon/loadout
I just started the game. I like having both medium range and close range weapons on me. Any recommendations?

just dont become braindead bush crouncher with snipers only waiting for enemy to walk into your sight
sure but also dont run in a straight line in open areas, dont stop moving, jump sometimes, flick left or right to check surroundings rq, but also move your head around...they cant 1 tap you unless its a headshot so make that as hard to hit as possible...it helps

Depends what you have unlocked yet ??

Best would be Mosin-Obrez and Romero Hatchet

When you dont have the Obrez yet.... you can go for Springfield Pocket Sniper (only Rifle which can fire Dum-Dum and explosive.... make your Enemy bleed, when he runs to cover to heal, splash damage him in cover with explosive Bullets) or you go for the Winfield...
but the Winfield has pistol Ammo... when you are not a Headshot Expert i would not consider it a viable range Weapon ;)

For starters , when you are really new.... then Focus on Romero Hatchet paired with Nagant Deadeye... 60 rnds a Minute still allows you to force People into Cover and shoot faster then any Rifle or Winfield User can

And when you encounter a whole Team.... and they are like 3-5 Meters away.... DONT EVER shoot one and then run away or jump around reloading.... you will die... 100%...
Shoot one, and then immediately charge the other with the Axe part of the Romero Hatchet.... you dont need to change grip... its super fast to hit "V" and chop People... Heavy attack is super fast and does 150 dmg... its a guaranted Kill when you hit them from front or Back into the Body

I killed more Trios this way then i can remember.... its not some meme fun ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ its highly effective and does work...
When you retreat to reload you most likely die.... just charge them and chop at them... you can jump 2-3 times to get possible headshots/upper Torso Hits into the lower Chest Hitbox and survive long enough to cut them all

Using the Hatchet also allows you 1 free more Tool cause you dont need to buy a normal Knife ... my usual Setup is "healing Box, Trapwire,Fake Bomb,Choke Bomb"
And then " Healing Shot Weak,Fire Bottle weak, Frag Grenade,Concertine Bomb

And since the Romero allows 2 Types of Ammo.... take Star Shell as secondary then you dont need a Flare Gun... Star Shells can be used to set fire to the Oil on the floor which will then burn 5 Minute... so you can quick block paths.... shot it inside a Window and it makes it 100000x more easy to see if People are inside... strong shadows at wall from moving, light disrupting when they go past the Gaps in the Wood... and they are blinded and cant see.... extreme underrated Shell

As soon as you have it unlocked always take a Frag Grenade, and always take a Fire Bottle...
As soon as your Team makes the first Kill, burn enemy Hunter with the Firebottle...It burns longer then his Lifebar will last... it pressures his Teammates to come to help and you only need to wait close by to easy kill them... when you hear them sneak around you can use the Fake Bombs to probe the Buildings or make them run out of cover like some headless Chicken ;)
Always get fire Bottle, always burn killed Hunters

i'll never not recommend this cheap loadout

knife, medkit, chokes (in duo/trios) (kinda optional ig)
dynamite stick, weak vit. shot, fire bottle

USE those throwables, dont try to save it, use it when you think it might work, you can get more throwables easy from toolboxes.

I honestly think just trying as many as you can is good. The different velocities of the bullets make it hard for me to suggest specific guns. Some people's memory is trained for different leads on people. Find which one is closest to what you're used to.

Omg ... do you realize you are the first Person here who speaks about proper aiming and leading aim ?
Everytime i try to convince People that not hit registry is broken... but their Aiming method... i get stuff to hear like "Muzzle Velocity play no role on this short distances"...

Me personally i have 2 Rule of Thumb for 2 Weapon Classes....
You can dial in Muzzle Velocity by using FMJ or High Velocity... and by that you can more or less group Guns into 2 Categories ... 400m and 600m

For example when i take a Vetterli Marksman with HV Ammo i get 610 Meters, a Mosin Nagant Sniper would have 615 Meters, a Lebel Marksman 630 Meters.... so i can basically aim all this Guns the same....

For Starters who want to learn sniping i would recommend the Sparks...Its 533 Meters are very universal.... when you learn 533 Meters.... you can also use Obrez and Nitro Rifle with 550 Meters... or all the Guns which are around 600 Meters by just using a tiny bit less Lead

My Sniper Training i made in Training Mode...
I shot Star Shells and Flares into the Air in different Angles and then sniped them out the Air, and i wounded Immolators far away and then tried to hit them when they run around angry and fast and random.

And now i sit here and can Headshot running People at 200 Meters but dont dare to use it cause i get 100x Hacker Reports a Day.....
Like i said a Shame that a Guy with 18 Year old Ban Free Steam Account and 850 h Gaming Experience has to worry no one would believe he legit learned it... they just report you...
Now i try to focus on the other High-Skill Weapos... Bow and Crossbow... with focus on the 1915 Hale Rifle Grenade... eh i mean "Frag Arrows"... you can shoot these things over half Map... there is much potential in learning the Arcs.... specially cause they dont have a impact Fuze...
They have a bouncing Betty/S-Mine Fuze... on impact they jump 1 m away from what they hit and then explode... so the shrapnells hit Stomach and Chest

But this also allows for Airbursts inside Buildings by shooting trough Holes against the Roof... everything inside the Lair then bursts into Flames and explodes... you can make it a place where "no life can be sustained" lol... Enemy Team will have used up all their Medicine when you fired your 4 Arrows right ;)

I dont understand that People whine about everything but not about Frag Grenades.
In my Opinion its the most cheap Weapon in the Game... you know someone is in a Building... you trigger the Grenade... count to 3... trow... the Poor Guy can do nothing....
He can preemptive run away when he hears the Fuze ... thats all..
And thats also the reason why i have fake Bombs... to trigger this "run away instinct"...and when you mix up frag grenades and fake Bombs it gets really lethal

As soon as i have booth medical Perks i stop using Heal Shot and take a 2nd Frag Grenade btw

And for the Original Poster....
Read this Post several Times... People dropped you alot of good Knowledge here, which will certainly give you a very sharp edge over "other noobs" in your Matchmaking !

Overall the best way to play hunt is extreme close range or long range.

So that being said the best weapons in hunt are: Mosin, Lebel, Berthier, Uppercut, any shotgun with slugs, crossbow, and dual wielding conversation pistols.

'best' how?

most fun? depends on the person

most effective? also depends on the person, some people arent great at, or just dont like, leading shots/sniping, so they'll do better rushing and shotgunning or similar...

you rarely need to lead shots with mosin/lebel/berthier, because they are basically laser guns is what makes them so OP. Uppercut is just straight up the best pistol hands down, but requires more often than not leading your shots. And you can't go wrong with shotgun slugs, since its 1 shot kill at close to nearly medium range. And dual conversation pistols are straight up good in a bad players hands, and borderline OP in a good players hands.

Also don't get me wrong, there is plenty of other "good" weapons. But they asked for the BEST, so i stated the best. For example i love the standard winfield, but its still kinda meh compared to the mosin/lebel/berthier due to its lack of pen.

i will agree dualies are crazy, ive clutched so many 1v3s after my teammates died using dual scottsfields

When in doubt; Grab a nagant officer pistol and take whatever as your primary.
It covers close-medium ranges just fine.
Although here's some of my personal recommendations.

1) Crossbow + any pistol.
Basically a silent slug shotgun.
Very cheap and available early; crossbow takes some getting used to, but is really strong once you unlock shotbolts. Good against PvE. Bolt thrower recommended.

2) Romero + any pistol
If you end up not liking the crossbow.
Romero is arguably the best buckshot shotgun in the game and available from rank 1.

3) Winfield w/ levering
Normal shooting for medium range and levering for close range.
Super cheap.

4) Vetterli + hand crossbow (50/50 poison).
Vetterli has enough ammo to last a gunfight.
Hand Crossbow is for PvE(good when learning the game) and doubles as a close range shotgun.

5) Springfield compact + Dual conversion pistols FMJ.
Only use the springfield if the enemy's > 30 meters away.
Otherwise just spam them down. FMJ is super strong and dual pistols require almost no aim.

6) Winfield vandal(or nagant precision) + sawed off shotgun
The classic free hunter loadout.

7) Nagant officer carbine + silenced nagant
My favorite. Fast rate of fire and the silenced nagant is good for PvE. Also, headshotting zombies around the map with it is good practice.
You can also take the officer nagant pistol if you prefer more spam.

Uh, are you aware that springfield compact is considered by a majority the worse weapon ingame, right?

Yes, it probably is. I also said 'All I can say is try them out and use those which feel good and fit the budget'. What I can say on my experience is Spr. Compact Striker feels really steady. It's much more reliable than Obrez, for example. I have to agree, for some reason I don't like the regular Springfield Compact that much either, but running with Hunting Bow + Striker or if you have QM Crossbow + Compact Striker is helluva fun.

To each their own. I'd like someone to argue Spr. Comp. Striker is a BAD choice when you happen to be short in cash. Because it definitely isn't. I just happen to like it so much I often
use it even if I had the $.

Mainly Solo player

Veterli Marksman and Saber. About half my kills are with Melee, not many expect a charge.

If have Qtr Master, swap Sabre for Romero Hatchet, same thing with Melee
