Gonna love the pathetic internet people trying to use "private profile" as an argument. Buy hey I am toxic because I am not greatfull for random "opinions" when I ask for a fact.
I mean, you don´t get assists unless the person gets finished off by a teammate of yours, sadly. Should give you assists if they die to falling, AI, or even other teams imo. Not that it ultimately matters all that much tbh, since you don´t really get ♥♥♥♥ for assists, but still.
Well they increase your KDA, sure, but not your KD, and you don´t get XP for them I´m pretty sure.
KDA. But really, both, since if you are teamed with someone, have someone on the friends list, or get killed by them, you will see all the KDA stats, so if someone´s got say, over 1 KDA, but fewer kills than deaths, you can see that pretty clearly even if you are terrible at math.
If you now claim that you do not care and they "give you ♥♥♥♥" you are just lying.
And btw, I think its good that its counted like a kill because why would you get more for having the 2nd or 3rd hit. In fact lets say 2 guys spot an enemy and both fire, the one who hits first is probably the one with the better reaction time/aim (just not headshit this time). Good that the one who hits 2nd not gets more reward for it. Even if the game would display both as a numbers you should still goe by KDA because assists are really not worth any less then kills. Good on the devs for this one.
I do care about KDA, but I also care a lot more about kills than about assists within that KDA. And there are definitely lots of people who do not care about KDA, and it is kinda hilarious to see someone think and speak in such blanket, baseless statements that are clearly wrong based just on how blanket they are.
They do not indeed get you ♥♥♥♥, since I do not care about what other people see in my stats, since I don´t play with randoms and don´t have to care about someone´s assessment of my KDA. I was referring to stuff such as XP or money, not "it makes me look super cool" kind of value.
Also, I do check people´s kills and assists separately, mostly out of curiousity, since it is somewhat indicative of how much they play solo and how much they play in teams, and can potentially also indicate how much they go for headshots and suchlike. Again, making blanket claims that *no one* checks this or that is rather bold of you.
And sure, I also think it´s good that assists get factored in, more or less because of what you just explained.

Telling the truth is considered rude by many people, I do not get the concept of being greatful for some meaningless worthless comment. An "opinion" as one guy in all seriousness called it. Ridiculous. I do not get that concept of polluting the internet with worthless BS about what you think or guess or make up. So sorry.
If anyone speaks German there are some sites I think gutefrage de is one of those but there are worse site. The absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ created by companies who just care to get free content generated by idiots, the do not care what is written. The engagements and possible keywords in their crap is all they care about. Literally every single question has these kinds of answers. Some random kid comes in and comments what he thinks, WANTS to be true, LIKES to be true. Or actually (not like this) gives his opinion on some barely related thing that nobody asked for. I am to old for this ♥♥♥♥. Why do humans act this way? I have seen answer that were straight up completle wrong and possible even harmful. Why do you expect me to even be greatful for that?
The stackoverflow sites are pretty much the exact oppisite, they have very strict rules (sometimes even too strict) but that leads to you having the actual good answers at the top and ♥♥♥♥ in the comment gets deleted or downvoted. It takes a serious ruleset and moderators for people to actually HELP. A reward system ... because otherwise it turns into a total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like pretty much everywhere else.
Yeah 0 assits. 1000h played you got me. So I just needed to ask this "dumb question" the 1st guy did not even have the answer to. So dumb that another guy desperatly tried to claim the wiki entry is "wrong" just because heal PROBABLY cancels it. So desperate, so predictable just because of my tone. I know how people tick, so obvious.
So it's actually so dumb of a question that we still not have a 100% official source or confirmation how it actually works. I assume its like that wiki (that was not linked, I assume there are multiple) says and additionally heal cancels the timer but the question is so dumb that we still have no confirmation on that. Ask yourself who is dumb.

I answered what I know (teammates, AI, enemy team, god) and added what I think about your other question, for you to not taking it for granted. I was going to search it for you as I always do. But you, being an a*hole, made me consider it and not answer to you at all and maybe others did the same.
Or I should not use the word "think" because thinking confuses you and my answer would be better for you?
And If you don't want the answer from people in here in discussion forum, but you demand the exact answer and source, you should search for it for yourself.
I'm not holding every exact information about this game in my head, but at least I tried to help.
And @Zacheria25 answer was completly right but it's actually from patch notes for update 1.0 before release of the game, when they added assists. Right now you can only hope that nothing has changed since then.
