Instead of your gun being the origin point of the pellets (and dropping off damage with range real fast)... The shotbolt impact with enemy body or any surface is the "origin point" of the shotgun shot instead. So basically you are launching a shotgun with your crossbow, to a distance.
The downside is the fact that it's a projectile, which means it has a rather long travel time UP to that point of impact when it turns into a shotgun shot afterwards and a trajectory/fall, like any other bolt from the crossbow. Just even more extreme fall over a shorter distance compared to basic bolt due to heavier mass.
Still... It's very good. Launching shotgun one-shots at a much greater distances than a shotgun can... That's fun. Still, needs skill/getting used to due to that travel time and trajectory/fall.
