once unlocked with blood bounds, you will get 1 free version of the legendary skin or hunter and then after that you will have to (re-)buy them with regular hunt dollars.
it's 333$ for a legendary hunter, who will come with 3 random traits just like a tier III, but with no gear whatsoever.
(PS: legendary hunters usually come with really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ traits, only got a few which had good and useful traits)
always purchase a medkit, some vitality shots and a melee weapon tool like the knife or the dusters. it will increase your survival chances drastically. the 100$ investment is 100% worth it.
no, nothing can be saved and everything is lost the moment your hunter doesn't make it out alive. this includes XP earned on that hunter, his weapons, his tools, his consumables. it's just all gone. legendary hunters are just normal hunters, with a skin. so they, too, are mortal.
you can also play quickplay, which is "no risk - high reward", if you manage to survive you will get that hunter and the gear you found for free plus he will have some upgrade points depending on what you did in that quickplay run.
quickplay is the best way to get free and good hunters, plus fast bloodbounds and money. (if you want to win without doing much, then play around 6-9am on your local sever. you will get empty quickplay matches and the moment you seal the final rift, you will win the game and save your hunter.)
the hunter recruitment system is actually quite nice and easy to comprehend once you get a few hours in. after a while you will know what to look for and what to purchase.
-------------------------
i have a KDA of 3.5, with 750hrs of bounty hunt played. 3500 kills, 1000 deaths. i'm in the top ELO bracket and win more than 66% of my games. and even when looking at my not-so-skilled mates, i can tell you that money is not a problem in this game. win one game and you get 1000-2200$. and if you don't spend more than 400$ on your hunter, you will automatically increase your bankroll just by playing.
i've lost close to probably around 700-800 hunters. they come and they go. in 750hrs I've been able to get 95 hunters to level 50. probably lost around than 200-300 hunters that were around level 30-49. get used to losing hunters, get used to losing good gear. overcome any and all gear-fear. money and weapons are so easy to come by and you can prestige after rank 100 to reset your bankroll to 3k. and for the first 10 levels of prestiging, always pick the random legendary ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bloodbounds :)
hunt giveth, hunt taketh.
if you need help check for guides on youtube. "psychoghost's" videos are really good!
- you can then see many different hunters to choose from. picking and purchasing the best ones only.
- you won't always see 4 hunters with good traits, healthbars, weapons and skins, so re-shuffling often gives you greater chances of actually getting a good level 1 hunter who has nice traits and a good skin, plus the right healthbars.
look for
- their traits first. early on you want to prioritize fanning (7 points), later on you want doctor (8 points). this will save your upgrade points for other traits if you manage to survive. once you know what a certain trait costs, you will be able to tell very quickly if that hunter is worth it.
(you'll get very lucky several times, getting level 1 hunters with 15-20 upgrade points worth of traits on them from the start, thus saving you upgrade points for other non-essential stuff)
- their healthbars (one large 4 small is best for team-games, so you can go down often / for solo action go for one with a large healthbar at the front, to save medkits and heals.)
only then would i look at:
-their cosmetics. for example, is he or she well clothed for the occasion. dark clothes? avoid white and red shirts whenever possible. they are too easy to spot.
-their gear and guns, for example:
- i want to play that gun! i haven't unlocked it, yet..
- that guy already has good gear! i only need to add a medkit and a vitality shot, he's almost good to go!
why gear and guns last? you can replace and sell all of it ( i almost always do), whilst everything else will cost either BP or can't be changed at all, like their skin.
There is a many ways to play, actually.
But trials are recommended, not only for rewards, but also for "git gud" in aiming, orientating around, get familiar with guns, weapon combos, tricks. Especially, bell tower sniping is good.
And, difference between legendary hunters and normal tier III (legacy lvl.67+) - you can see what perks tier III have, but he often comes with weapons and gears that just increase cost, while legendaries comes always with three big health bars and with gambled perks. Once I've got legendary with perks for lever action, bolt action and pump action rifles and shotguns, which is disaster XD
