Hyper X headphones vs my old Corsair.

Well, I have been using my new Hyper X for about 2 weeks now.
Totally different sound from the Corsair set.
At first the sound was amazing. I felt this because it was so different. Since I've been playing for a bit now I'm not so sure anymore. Especially today.
Taking a shot and missing on a foggy map, I quickly move to a new location unknown to me where the second guy was I move silently ( as much as one can in the game) to the high grass cover. I guess he saw me, the second guy when I moved because I can clearly hear him coming but for the life ( literally)
of me I couldn't tell from which direction. I kept turning around trying to determine where the footsteps where. Not until I saw him and which was too late, did I know. Lost a 3O level hunter.
So I'm starting this conversation so others with the same headphones could jump in and possibly give some advice.
My Corsair set..would of picked it right up without any problem.
The Hyper X cups are :
HyperX Cloud II series. They are so comfortable too. Much better than the Corsair.
Im wondering if the Hyper X set sould be used with a sound card? I ask because I need to put them in 7.1 surrounded mode to make them louder.
Of course that could be a problem too, but I used the surrounded mode with my old set and it worked fine.
I do hear a difference in the volume between the two. Hyper X is definitely lower.
So does anyone have these and experience this problem and possibly have a solution?
I really hate to return these.

These headphones are wonderful! What I did was switch the dlc with the Corsair's.
Unbelievable difference.

Ive tried this with turning surround on. Ive been trying to listen for hours where the sound was coming from. Cant get used to it..

Yep. Game is made for stereo. I believe that was my problem and I lost a good hunter. Without it on though I had a hard time hearing. I mean I heard more distinct sounds
( With the stereo on the HyperX)
but the volume was so low. No where near the volume on my old set.
Easy fix though. Just switched dlc module 👍🏻
What a difference! Once again I am a happy hunter.

now you solved me a mystery i had.
i have the same hyperx cloud 2 - it's obvious that when you turn off the 7.1 and just play on stereo you identify where sound coming from much much better.
i also use the Velour cups cause i find them more comfortable (the originals gave me pain beyond belief)
also the Velour which are less isolated are suppouse to be more similar to open end cups which gives you better sense of where the voices are coming from which is great for online shooters.

my friend had the corsair void (pro i think), he always knew/heard stuff that i never even heard.
but now after you had both and solve it the way you did i now know why i cant hear things that he hears and why he can pin point them out while i need him to pin it for me.

since i dont have a dac, i now wonder about that "equalizer APO" that @doomantia seven suggested.

Surround sound can help but depends what your using the ones that come with cheapo headsets are crap that is to be expected but SBX and SXFI from creative are great and do wonders for placing sounds. Also an amp/dac will do wonders for anyones sound. With the Creative X3 you can use SBX or SXFI for your surround or direct mode for pure 2 channel listening.

I have tried this game with 3 sets of headphones ....


Corsair Void Pro Wireless
Steel Series Artic 7 Wireless
Old Turtle Beach 5.1 Analog (has like 6 plugs that go into back of computer)

The headsets are ordered from WORST to BEST.

Corsair the software is ♥♥♥♥. Not so much the interface but whatever is in the firmware. It has very bad directional.

Steel Series ... best out of the wireless I've used.

Analog 5.1 .. I know precisely where everything is at and can reasonably gauge distance.


The problem most people have is that 1 ...

1) Any headset isn't true surround sound
2) If you muck with your 7.1 settings too much it will get .. precisely that ... mucked up ...
3) Game optimized for stereo ...


The #1 mistake most people make is adjusting "sound balancing" or "equalization" .... meaning they enable the features of the headset that make "soft sounds" more loud and "more loud" sounds more soft ...

This is GREAT if you're trying to listen to that kennel that's aggro'd a zone away .. damn it's loud and clear ... but it's HORRIBLE if you want any directional sound within a compound or close quarters .. everything just drowns it out.


My suggestion is to just go stereo and master the game that way. Some of the best players and streamers can be seen doing what they do just using friggen ear buds. Even in the splash screen Cyrtek literally says .... "optimized for stereo" .. don't over think it.

I have the hyper x cloud 2, which are older and not as good as yours.

I had to go anolog into the computers sound card because the sound card it came with makes everything lower including mic.

The 7.1 surround makes it hard to judge the distance for me, but picks up sound very well.

I previously had Corsair g933 if I remember correctly and find my hyper x better if 7.1 is off.

Edit: anyone using cloud 2, get rid of the small sound control and go into computer sound card, made a difference for me.

Crytek in the devstream about audio explained that for this game all kinds of surround sound software should be turned off, because the game uses it's own system and in some cases the two systems can mess with each other.

I am using a 34 euro AKG K518L and everything is perfect.

I will try the velour - just to see if I like them. So far I'm good though with the ones that are on it now.

A DAC..not a DLC. I knew I was writing that wrong 😂😂
Also, the Corsair's software comes with an equalizer. I put that on. Has a preset for FPS games. I believe that too has helped, so definitely look into that!
It's a shame the HyperX came with such a bad dac. If I didn't think of trying what I did I would of either bought something
(an amp?) or just returned them. Which I didn't want to really do. The headphones are way better than the Corsair's.

If your talking about the HyperX headphones - yes. They were very low. Fixed it with a better DAC 👍🏻

Well, I have to say by doing what I did made a huge difference. I was thinking of going into the mob directly but it's an old one ( Asus P6X58D premium) and I didn't think it would help much when I came up with the idea of swapping the dac.
Extremely happy with my headphones now.
