Heavy cav feels weak
Heavy cav has felt weak for a while already, even before the latest DLC.

Things I've noticed is:

  1. They get stuck on things that they should not get stuck on. I've seen my dragon princes get stuck on a pack of zombies. I charge in, and go out after 5 seconds, but models just can't seem to leave properly.
  2. They take way too much damage, I charge straight into a group of black orcs, half their regiment goes flying and they are totally scattered. But the HP of my dragon princes just tanks in brief window they make contact. This combined with point one leaves me at a losing trade when I get off a clean charge, which should be what heavy cav is good at.
  3. On difficulties above normal cav just gets weaker and weaker.

All these points combined make cav feel so weak, in fact I believe they are an outright bad choice on harder difficulties.
This feels weird to me, when getting off clean charges with heavy cav you should expect to do massive damage, and trade upwards. And seeing mournfang cavalry get stuck on 3 empire spearmen and die just feels stupid.

That's true, Heavy Cavalry is really flawed at the moment, but I hope they'ill fix it in the future.

I think shock cavalry should redesigned more around being line support(fewer models and charge though friendies to shatter parts of the line, you would keep like one in reserve to use opportunistically) , anti large cavarly are capable a beating shock any way and can rear charge.

The issue in campaign is if your forced into using shock cavalry to counter other cavalry sometimes first, I don't see the reason why say Rieks/silver helms being a shock actually works, these can't contest other AL cavalry around their tier, whats the point of the shock role...

Well, let's not forget that races have specialities. For example: Empire is mainly infantry with broad range of "everything" to counter every race if prepared. HighElves are the same but pushed to level 100 (really, they are just op)

Use your medicore cav against dwarfes and you will see differences. Or against undead chaff or Tomb Kings infantry. Beware hard-conters like Bloodknights or these Halberd snakes :D

Use them against monsters or Bretonnia cav and they will loose too. Empire is, for me at least, the most well-rounded and balanced faction in this game.

I just made a post about this in the other thread and I think the mods nuked it. Cav in general are glorified warhounds because chariots and monsters do the things they should be doing better. You shouldn't have to sneak a unit like dragon princes in behind something and be afraid the unit they're supposed to be countering is going to do too much damage to them. Their approach to cavalry in this game is too unrealistic and it's not satisfying to use them. Hopefully they fix the current bug with charging infantry doing too much damage to them, but I don't have a lot of hope as far as changing the meta goes.

Also yeah, having my shiny new mournfangs get wrecked by bottom of the barrel skaven infantry was just sad.

Today is heavy cav day again then.

Check the mods listed above if your unhappy.

They might have been bugged for a while. I cant say since I havnt played a faction with heavy cav for a long time.
If that is the case, then sure it should be fixed.

But for the people saying heavy cav has always been bad. Well then I dont agree. I thought they where in a good place.

Heavy infantry on the other hand is the unit group that was underperforming. But maybe that was fixed?

Infantry are also not in the greatest spot, and fixing cavalry would probably hurt them even more. There's got to be some sort of compromise though where cavalry can behave like you would realistically expect them to, and perform reasonably well. If you can use a couple spells and nuke like 600 infantry units and have a handful of archers quadruple their value, I think that says more about what the actual problem is.

currently quite a few high mass units "its just that with expensive cav its most noticable" are buged

CA fixed a bug and broke something else

generally without including bugs i would say cav are in a good spot
but yeah as of writing this cav especially elite cav are in a really really bad spot cause of a charge calculation bug that basically ruins them

I agree. I never really had issues with cav until they changed the way mass works a few patches ago. I'm going to use that mod to revert those changed to see if cav feels better to use.

Yeah, it's particularly apparent after the chariot mass buff recently. Shock and monster cav are in a bad place when anti-INFANTRY, AP infantry are cleaving into them after a counter charge. Mass changes do not help either since it mired them into uselessness.
Either CA goofed or there's some bad code.

You cant just say cavalry with cav you really do get what you pay for top teir cav particularly Bretonion flying cav will absolutely smash the poop out of anything except heavy spear units whereas crappy reichguard knights are more or less useless against most opponents unless heavily micro managed and yes they dont obey orders wont retreat when ordered to wont disengage which drives me absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nuts the devs really need to fix this issue asap

I find that heavy cavalry just melts after the initial charge to almost anything else. I stopped using it as an infantry unit is much cheaper and lasts longer.
