I went straight after getting Grudge Throwers then disassembled the building cause dont need it sitting around.
Was fairly aggressive didnt wait for a full stack before I started attacking the Orcs for the holds.
After you get those gold mines there really is not a lot of advice to give as those cement your kingdom in gold.
Turtling will never work afaik. And yeah until you get like the 4 mountain provinces north of the silver road stabilised, you can't afford to lose a single battle either. After that you still have to deal with black krag spamming greenskins stack after greenskins stack but if you can go through that the rest is relatively easy as the dwarves economy will start to kick in.
Karak Kadrin is one of the toughest Legendary campaign start right now imo.
never had Nakai coming down there though, that's an interesting one.
I had the exactly same experience as Karak Kadrin Legendary. Even damn Teclis ME is easier.
My best attempt:
- obviously all other dwarves died by turn 20,
- Sylvania no1 strength ranking running rampant through the empire,
- Grimgor confederated everything and with 25 settlements economy pushed all his forces on mount Gunbad with multiple waaaghs around turn 45
- multiple skaven invasions from everywhere, I honestly don't know how many. Worst of them wiped my main army (it was my only defeat) though losing about 90% of their numbers. I've managed to push them back later on.
- all neutral rogue armies coming from all around the world with only one intent - raid my teritory. Signing non aggression with them did nothing.
I've fought like crazy doing 1-2, sometimes 3 manual battles every turn for 100 turns. I've managed to pull out dozens of impossible victories, killed all invaders and pushed the Grimgor and Eshin back and back and back. I've reached Africa and Tomb Kings killing Orks and Skaven each and every turn. Relentless enemy wave never stopped coming.
When I finally killed them all (turn 100) I've checked northern tribes and it turned out that the one that is my victory objective confederated/conquered 30 settlements and is reaching as far as Naggarond. Empire was mostly taken by VC and Skaven. I realised that after all I've done I'm further away from victory than I was on turn 1.
That's when I gave up :P
But that starting-hero is your best friend. Use him to scout, dont be afraid to set up ambushes. Try to be aggressive. I usually try to get some crossbows early for extra killing power, then ditch the barracks and build wall. Same with the slayer shrine, just build some slayers at the start then ditch it for a money-building
Do not get bogged down for too long, they will overwhelm you. After red eye is dead consolidate the region a bit.
