I want to play Orcs - what do i buy?
hi, thanks for reading. first of all i'm a long-time Games-Workshop buyer, i also play/have played many of their video games (dawn of war 1-2 +all the dlc), so i've put a lot of damn dollars into this company...

having said that, understanding the "Total War: Warhammer I / Warhammer II" base games and all their respective mini-expansions (DLCs or w/e they're called) is an effort beyond a 5-minute google search. so i'm wondering if the community here can give me a quick answer, because i don't want to over-spend and purchase unnecessary DLCs.

so basically, WHAT GAMES AND DLC'S DO I HAVE TO BUY TO PLAY AS THE ORCS WITH ALL THEIR LATEST UNITS/CHARACTERS? KEEP IN MIND I ALREADY HAVE WARHAMMER II AND THE WITCH/CRONE DLC?

sorry for the caps, but i'm trying to continue to be a loyal customer to this company (Blizzard sucks).

Mortal Empires was a free feature released in Game 2 that allows you to play as all the original factions from game 1 and all the 'new' factions from game 2 on a map that combines the map from game 1 with the map from game 2. You need to own game 1 for this to work because game 1 is what contains half of the Mortal Empires map and factions.

So to play Orks, you need to own game 1. To play using ALL the Ork legendary lords and special units, you need game 1 and the 2 DLCs listed above. The Ork faction is getting an update on the 21st that will rework/vastly improve the faction, so there's no real rush to play them.

Also everything it discounted during the Skulls for the Skull Throne steam event which AFAIR should be happening soon, so that should help save money if you wait.

Buying the DLC next week will give you access to most units, missing the ones from the WH1 ork pack. Getting those units requires buying WH1 and that DLC.
Kamen Rider May 15, 2020 @ 6:21pm
Warhammer 1

Warhammer 2

And the 2 dlcs shared above

I think you have to have an account with Total War forums to actually get the ROR units, but you only need to do that once and it unlocks all the ROR units for the game and its free to sign up.

No, Ork RORs come from the two DLCs above.
The ones activated in TW Access are for Chaos, Beastmen, Wood Elves, Norsca and Bretonnia.

So was it a bait thread where you ask a question that you already know an answer to just to post this? It was a bad try, this was obvious from the very first post.

no, i'm trying to figure out if i really need to buy anything just to play orcs because it seems like i already have warhammer I mortal empires according to the load up screen but wtf?

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2098179746

it says mortal empires is free, and when i click on it, it tries to open the steam browser and nothing happens after that. wtf is going on?

You only need the DLC that is coming on 21st. You will have one orc faction to play. That is your answer. Mortal Empires is unnecessary.

You do have Mortal Empires because you own WH2 and it is WH2 DLC, but you don't have any content to use in it because content is WH1.

ok this is where most of my confusion was, i thought MOrtal Empires was Warhammer1, and that the game was telling me i already had it...

so what you're saying is that if i wanted to play orcs right now i would have to unlock this "content" by purchasing Mortal Empires as DLC to Warhammer II

but i should just wait until the 21st.... damn this is confusing as hell. i just wish i'd gotten into this game series from the start so i'd be u p to speed on all the sequels and DLCs
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Yes, as said above, you won't have access to the WH1 DLC units for them, you'll have the base roster plus this new DLCs units
