How do you permanently remove the overlay?

That black mass is making me furious. whenever I scroll back and forth to look over the map, the retarded thing is blocking my messages on the right side of my screen. I want to remove it so it won't pop back in every 5sec's when I look over the map in between battles.

I've tried to find a way to move it somewhere else on the screen as an alternative but no dice so far.

No the ingame overlays crap that is below the map on the right side of the screen which every player must see when they play this game.

The city, event, army overlays, which only open, if you click on the buttons on the top right?

Clarification: Strategy map or Battle map? Because in between battles could mean both.

I'm still trying to understand why you're seeing something that I apparently do not.

Is it the menu that appears when holding spacebar (campaign and battle) that you possibly might've locked on accident? If so, just click the lock icon to unlock it again. Or don't hold spacebar when scrolling.

This is definitely not normal/default behaviour and you must've changed something.

Unless your GPU drivers are failing to render something right I don't know of any solid black overlays. Or even largely black overlays.

well you cant remove that one on the World Map screen it disappears when you zoom in though.

Yeah that is why I am a little frustrated since I prefer it clean on my screen, especially when I zoom out and look at the entire map. It is gorgeous and would be even more if that crap wasn't in the way. It is surprising since I've not felt that kind of issue with any other total war game. Could be I simply remembered it wrong?

4 years later and I completely agree. Was hoping to find a way to remove the overlay on the zoomed-out World Map. It covers the mini map and all other notifications that would be nice to see in the world view. Why would anyone want the overlay settings to be permanently open like it is!
