Great cannons bad. L2P me
Great cannon of Empire and similar of Vampire coast does not do anything vs infantry and monsters and they both have Antylarge. Does it worth anything?

canons are more of a multiplayer unit where they are used to provide steady pressure to force your oponent to advance towards you

and they are also great at counter-sniping artilery although since the ai cant defend artilery to save its life "literally" that means cannons are really only good in a competitive enviroment

Cannons in general are kinda a specialty unit. If you just compare there DPS to normal ranged units it's usually going to be alot less. You sometimes get a perfectly aimed shot with cannons, and it does a ton of damage even to infantry, but it's a crapshoot.

They have there uses, but there not a unit you can just spam 19 of in a stack.

Its possible to completely skip them in SP, I don't actually think much of them tbh, the prime reason to use them is if you need to hit cavalry units but Empire gets demi's anti large which means you may aswell just have anti infantry artillery.

Dwarfs can make better use of them but with dwarfs its kind of the same situation I think your far better of with a combination of flame cannons, gyro's and weapon teams can cover the anti large area.

Vcoast might be the only real contender to actually keeping them in late game army's, since they have no cavalry, but the cannon Los does annoy me, if your on flat maps cannons can do work.

Cannon are pretty situational. However one way to get some value is to set up your main front line as usual, then remove one or two units from the center of your line and replace them with your lord and a hero or two. Then place the cannon behind them, possibly with a reserve melee behind in case the enemy pushes past. Most cases though, the enemy bunches up on your lord and you can just fire into them directly with the cannon. Otherwise, you set up cannon on your flanks and try to pull them around to fire directly down the enemy frontline engaged with yours. There’s a lot of risk doing so, but just a few volleys at that angle can win a battle.

That’s for infantry anyway. Their uses in sieges or against large targets like mammoths are much more straightforward.

It's great against elite units with small units counts.
Not so good against blobs.

It's a siege weapon that is actually meant as a siege weapon (which is uncommon in this game :D )

You can blast apart towers and walls in just a few rounds.

I tried to shoot dragons and gigant crabs. Well, i expected a lot more dmage from cannon to single entity.

Yeah, they miss a bunch even vs giant units. I feel like they are balanced more for Multiplayer. Since dealing long range damage to a monster would matter more there.

I used to use them in SP, but I replaced them with the Hellblaster. Only real plus the cannon has over the hellblaster is range, and most battles that buys you maybe 4 shots before enemies are in close. Once in range the hellblaster does way more.

This is why I generally have a couple in a stack that's going to be doing a lot of sieges. Otherwise it's mortars and the like.

You can not even switch to canister shot or shrapnel. Just a dumbed down wallbreaker and tower killer that must be protected, and does almost nothing during normal battles. On top of that it takes several turns to recruit. It drains some hp before melee contact. Cannon artillery is supposed to be devastating vs infantry or cavalry, here they are a joke

If you're gonna use a canon just use probably any gun infantry unit. They perform well against both infantry and large units. I don't both with canons. Eff em.

In the Empire specifically, helblasters are just strictly superior. They siege faster. They hit units better. They kill infantry and large better.
