Wood elf amber strategy
Trying out wood elves, and I'm curious about how people are handling their campaign strategy.

I want to control the whole forest, but the other elves have strong garrisons and are often camping in their cities.

I need more amber to confederate. I get amber from holding territory and military allies. The only diplomatic bonus I get for free is with Brettonians, but their territory is also the easiest to conquer by myself.

I could buy diplomatic bonuses for other factions for amber. But if I have other elves as military allies they can suddenly declare war on those factions, and negate the bonuses I just got.

What to do?

when playing wood elves you kinda have to play a bit like a feral horde if you want to get amber
or you can form alliances with big nations and they will give you amber for the amount of settlements they own

when i started my WE campaign by turn 3 i had captured karak norn? i think its called
there is a dwarf faction that is right next to Durthu's waterfall palace
from there i became friends with the empire and bretonnia, fought the barrow legion and marinburg* and claimed them, *invest in the technology that gives you a huge buff to ports aswell*
then helped the empire with the vampires at the same time making friends with the dwarfs who were getting large at this point with all your friendliness with fighting the undead the empire and bretonnia are *were* overjoyed with me and formed alliances shortly after
that was a free 20-30 amber in the first 30-50 turns roughly
once allied with the dwarfs, bretonnia and empire and they will expand and get you so much free amber

then if you want lothern and the other HE can ally with you and give you even more amber

by turn 100-150 i had more amber than i needed for the tree and was able to have a few armies of just elite units

with bretonnia, the empire & dwarfs blocking anyone from just walking in on your forest with their lands, it gives you room to go way south and get that other WE faction way way way south

*edit* early parts of the game you can take out fey enchantress without much of the other bretonnians caring or noticing which can lead you to getting to know the high elves quicker , getting those docks & that sweet trait u get from her

Interesting. I can probably butter up the high elves and then I would get enough amber to start confederating quickly. I'm actually tempted to just take out all the Brettonians exept maybe Leoncoeur up top. Armor piercing spear infantry can do work against them, and then I get a ton of ports and sea access to high elves, as well as road access to Empire. Right, thats the plan. Thanx! 😁

you can take bretonnia out fairly easily, wood elves have abilities to halt any dangerous calvary though its a single unit effect ability but at the start of the game bretonnia wont have many knights
and alot of their units that you can get early on anyway have charge defense and anti large to deal with any they do have
and your range units are way better than theirs and capable of fighting some of the peasant infantry and overcome them

forming alliances with empire also makes dealing with the everchosen and chaos a bit easier later down the road

also durthu is an absolute boss of a lord
