Dwarves. Go North or South?
Which orc to hit first after taking starting province?

Less about that, more about still having a second army behind your back, if you go South. Should always kill the Northern starter enemy first, if you don't want to keep a second army defending your home province all the time.

Personally I'd go North and conquer the two gold mine settlements and everything inbetween, and then go South. That way you'll be able to afford another army and also not have to worry about getting attacked from the North for a while.

You mean the Southern starter army? There's a mustering ork army in the province to the south of me from the get go.

I would secure the eastern mountain range up to kislev/baersonlinger and then head south..

Well right now I have little option then defend myself against endless waves of greenskins.

Go west.
The outcome of the War of the Beard wasn't full closure.
Ulthuan has plenty of mountains too.

Either way you go, you'll get orcs up your backside. But once you've dealt with the ones to the north, your back is fairly safe when you turn around and go south. So, I prefer going north first.

Whenever I play dwarfs lately tend to have more issues with the vampires then the orcs, so going north is idea and lets you deal with some of the orcs and the vampires. By the time your finish with the north, the green skins will have stop fighting with each other and you can focus on the remains solidly

I prefer going south first. There's only two passes north to defend (black fire pass and the way to rib peaks), so i just feel like it's easier to defend against attacks coming from the north. Hell, you can easily defend the silver road from northern attacks with a half stack as long as your settlements have walls. Plus there's two other Dwarf factions up there and they can be a useful buffer against the vampires.

South you've got a lot of greenskins to deal with, so imho it's better to go after them before wurrzag and grimgor team up and start snowballing. Once I've pushed down towards araby and made contact with the tomb kings, then I'll send my army defending silver road up into peak pass while trying confederate with the surviving dwarfs there.

Yeah I'm going South. The ones in the North are not a threat right now, but Grimgor is really annoying.

BTW, the Dwarves are boring.

I personally like to go south to take Death Pass. That way you can get your hands on Black Crag with it's 10 build slots and gold mine and you cripple/take out the main greenskin faction. After that I go north if Karak Kadrin or Zhufbar haven't dealt with that area.

Rush Mount Gunbad. You'll want to beat Zhufbar to the smaller settlement to build a farm for growth. You basically have to have that in the first 12 turns or so. As long as Red Eye hasn't declared war, you can probably let Kadrin deal with them. I usually get by ignoring him until later, just focusing the South after that. Gunbad is a literal goldmine for making all the money to support yourself. Don't lose that to Zhufbar.

As Dwarfs I rarely confederate so I can keep trade going really strong. So you want to get that quick. After every move, recruit as much as you can and keep moving. With those two provinces secured, you can push south or hold your own and build up.

Normally your topics are sheer clickbait but I'd tend to agree: the Dwarves don't have cool magic to use (the runes being click-and-forget), no fun monsters, their heroes and abilities are good but not interesting.
Battles consist of sitting there and shooting things and trying not to lose the melee grind.

I just find them uninteresting, which is a shame :/

I have much more fun in SFO: one unit of Dwarven Engineers will buff most of your units and is basically a short-range grenade thrower (great for winning that melee grind!), cannons can actually reliably kill large units before they start running among, and Gyrocopters are actually effective to micromanage: their bombs in particular acting like a WOM-independent Urannon's Thunderbolt.

I always find that if I leave the north they become an irritant so i deal with them early.
However in my last game the northern dwarves came across and took the settlements themselves, creating a nice barrier that I safely ignored till the southern Orks had been wiped out entirely.
By then your empire will be huge so you'll have the Power is Everything diplomacy boost with the tomb kings which would let you safely pact up with them with very little chance of them attacking you, leaving you safe to wipe out the remaining orks and vampires then a nice roll on to archaon.
