Update broke my game
I had 3 games needing updates today, 2 of them went by no problem, Warhammer 2 will not update, giving me the "Not enough free disk space" error.

I've already tried restarting my PC and nothing's changed, I've also tried downloading and installing another game, no problems with that one, the issue is specifically with Warhammer 2.

I know it will sound crazy, but... do you have enough free space on a drive? Around 90 GB to be precise?

It'a a 9 gig update, and I have 30 free, why do I need 90 gig free for a 9 gig update?

Because there's a lot of backing up required during the updating process.

So the update will actually take up more than 9 gigs then?

Usually - no. But in this case - yes. After update is complete game would be around 85 GB

P.S.
To be precise, you need enopugh space on disk as biggest file of the game updated is sized. + a tad extra. In case of TWW2 it would be around 16 GB, IIRC. But less space you have - slower process would be and chance of error increases.

Temporarily it'll require a lot of space, but most of it should be automatically cleaned after.
Also note that, in this case, the extra files you're downloading can be removed after.

Iiirc it makes a copy of all that it replaces.
Also in this updates case, the game gets ~20gb bigger.

Try going to Steam > Downloads > Clear Download Cache. If that doesn't work, then yes you have to do what the others say, since when updating, the game adds in a few GBs as backup to make sure the things that are updated gets updated properly in case the download stops or gets interrupted.

broke mine too. constant loop of download and verify. have to uninstall and reinstall.
Big patch but no patch note.

i kinda interrupted it so i could be wrong but tww1 also has a update. you could try updating the first game and then the second and see if that fixes it. its says 100% and alot of games need to update and tww2 wont start until it "updates" for me agian it says 100%. it did the update and then it did patching and it said 100% so im not even sure if i actually interrupted it. im here talking because of the update and it doesnt look like ill get to play before work now.

edit in if you have all the dlc some of the content in tww2 is from tww1. just a reminder if you havent done both updates for a potential fix that may or may not even be relevant.

You gotta have the same size of the game if not double when updating. It allocates, and verifies and updates. The cache files take up the same space as the game, it's always a good idea to have double the room.

i have 1.8 tb free on the f drive where i put it. its a 5tb ssd and 90% of it or more is steam. i deleted most if not all of the blizzard stuff i had had on it. i waited for it to say 100% before queing other updates that need to be done.

on an important and slightly unrelated not its over 2 terabytes. honestly ♥♥♥♥ windows. i installed halo wars 2 thinking it would put the windows files with windows and the windows harddrive... ya. no. im gonna have to get a new 5 terabyte hardrive and reformat this one to remove random now junk windows files that i cant access even after uninstalling halo wars 2 so i can reinstall it somewhere else that isnt my steam hard drive.

i don't understand your issue. You do know the first game does not need to be installed right?
