I like to use lots of shades, the halberd infantry plus executioners, and a dragon or hydra or two. Some folks would throw the sisters in there as well. And a mage.
Hellebon on Cauldron
Death Hag on Cauldron
Fire Sorceress
Master on Pegasus
2 x dragons
1 x Scourgerunner (ROR)
4 x Dark Shards (one is ROR)
2 x Shades (GS)
4 x Sisters of Slaughter
1 x Executioners (could be replaced with Sisters but they've been there since turn 1 so....)
1 x Bolt Thrower
1 x Bloodwrack Medusa (ROR)
It's a good balanced army which tears through the enemy like paper. Hellebron is pretty much unstoppable.
Sword and shield lord, spiteful trait, Shadowdart name
Sorcerer, fire or shadow magic with discipline trait
Death hagh also discipline
Master only with spiteful
4 x Black guard
2 x bolt thrower
2 x Black dragons
Rest of shades
I didn't find anything that gave me a hard time with that convo
But why everybody take the shadowart traits ? that give +x range to shades instead of the one thats give them +30 armors and melee attacks ?
Here is my ambush army, with the traits that give shades +30 armors that make them tanky and with Morathi around who have a buff thats give them +10 melee defense and attack they become very tanky and not affraid from getting charged by cavalery :
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1998206679
They got 86 armors (+6 from the traits after killing Gelt)
67 melee attacks and 59 melee defense
Got no problems for killing large units with a fire focus (with the new ROR Chariot that give -24 % speed and -24% resist archery)
and my sorceress got the weapons for root enemy units in an area
Otherwise Hellebron for exemple I play her a bit like VCount, full melee army since she got very good buffs for melee units
But with this trait they are dangerous in range and can be a strong opponent in melee too
For fun and change a bit the gameplay with my different lords
I can accept to take some charge from cav or other melee units that I wouldnt with normal shades
When attacking in siege I can also rush them wall then shoot the soldiers inside, and if some enmies decide to melee me on the walls I have no problems to deal with them
Blackguard, witch elves, Kharybidis, executioners, and Lokhir on his dragon are quite good too, but I personally find I get much less mileage out of them.
And for early game: all of the darkshards... All of them.
