Buy DLC and game 1 if you like the game and want more races/factions (you can use game 1 and game 1 DLCs in game 2, so consider game 1 like a "mega DLC" with 4 races).
Buy game 3 in a few months when Immortal Empires come out so you will be able to use all the contents of game 1, 2 and 3 together in the final campaign.
Don't buy any DLC's yet, just try out the base game and see if you like the campaign/battles. If you can see yourself playing it more often and want to try out some other factions, then you can consider getting DLC's and the like.
Game 3 should also be available on gamepass which is where I would recommend trying it until they discount it or patch it to being at least as good as game 2.
Visit game 2 to play Vortex campaign. It's a stand alone campaign.
Game 3 has the best tutorial if you've never played a Total War game before. But how much time are your really going to spend on the tutorial? OTOH, if you have games pass, then TWW3 is free there, so might as well give it a go.
Ranged has always been the meta, outside of end-game monster unit stacks or hero stacks.
It's nothing new to the Total Warhammer series.
No doubts warhammer-2 is the best.
Or warhammer-1.
Do not go for warhammer-3 unless you want to get your frustration rise to the roof.
Warhammer-3 is only for experience players only.
Once you get good in warhammer-2 then go to warhammer-3.
Warhammer-1 & warhammer-2 is more player friendly.
In Warhammer-3 everything is a rush. Rush, rush, rush is important in the game.
You have to have good calculated move in warhammer-3 even in easy difficulty, otherwise you might end up game over very quickly.
Make sure you ge ready good in warhammer-2 first before playing warhammer-3.
Do not complain if warhammer-3 seem too hard to play, because you are not the only person complaining. Warhammer-3 is hard game without a doubt.
You ready need a good plan in place when playing in warhammer-3 otherwise you just end up coming back to steam forum and start screaming/crying at the developers.
III - was released unfinished and needs some serious rework. Give it a year maybe.
II - is THE best (of the whole total war franchise - discuss ;P ) - Vortex & Mortal Empires. Though it had the time to get to this point and creative assembly made some good choices. The most stupid choice though is the Vortex- race- mechanic itself: since you get punished for progressing in it. That still baffles my mind; don't participate and suceed way more easy lol...
I - was a good start. only good memories. I played every race on legendary difficulty to victory. Looking back - they were all fun to play in their own different ways.
I suggest - give it a thought or two and then play what you like.
