The canonical End Times ruined Chaos for me.
Well,i just made the mistake of reading up on the End Times. And boy if this event doesn't just ruin the old world(quite literally),but also chaos itself.
I mean that's it?Killing a bunch of hairless monkeys!
That's what this whole thing was all about. The "reign" of Chaos ends along with everything else.No new world order. No expansion into the universe.Or some other goal mortals couldn't even begin to comprehend.Give me ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ something.
No,instead they were struggling for thousands upon thousands of years, just to kill a group of weirdos on some random backwater planet no one cares about.I lost all interest in learning more about the Warhammer world.
And this ,for me at least, goes beyond Warhammer fantasy and into all of 40k as well. The mysterious warp creatures i heard so much about for years, the world shaping and setting definig entitys are just some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥,one dimensional, saturday morning cartoon villains. There is nothing, absolutely nothing to them.
From now on when playing a chaos faction i have to make up my own lore, like "that's just some weird magic archaon and co"use, and (sadly) ignore the warp altogether,if i want to enjoy this universe.

The Chaos gods want to keep playing - Archaon technically wanted to end it all, because he hates Chaos. But it was all for nothing.

So, the Chaos gods technically just went "LOL XDDDD".

I wanted to be a fan of Archaon, but his origin and End Times disappointed me. Maybe he's better in AoS.

I kind of wanted him to operate under the notion that all the 'gods' were the same, that he could look up and see them in the sky, kind of breaking the 4th wall, and actually seeing that the tabletop players are the gods sort of. Whether true or not I thought it'd be interesting.

End Times also ruined Setra for me. THere's a point where Setra is summoned to join Chaos in the final field battles pretty much, and he's supposed to face Nagash. He punks out and ditches on Chaos all in one day? Just weak.

Belegar had a great ending I thought. Thorgrimm and Queek kind of got shafted. But the book covering them was great I thought.

Then the idea that people survived the End Times to go to AoS I didn't like. It reminds me of that one guy who survives The Illiad only to show up in Roman war poems a thousand years later or something.

But I did like the actual ending of the world. Thought it was awesome and gutsy. More game worlds should die.

Don't let it sour you to 40K - it's a wonderful psychological allegory, space marines aside.

Deities are complex that them being one dimensional gives them all the dimension in the world. Because god powers are in play. Look at Tzeentch, EVERYTHING goes according to keikaku plan. Asking how merely scratches the surface of the tip of the iceberg.

I just flat out deny end times happens. Im not a fan of AoS but they can exist in their own lil corner for all i care just dont touch my setting. I just still picture in the old world following the old storm of chaos ending rather than the reset button.

Well, they recently announced the Old World is coming back. Sure its not canon in terms of lore, but for TT its pretty neat.

For sure the End Times does not mean Chaos has just disappeared. They're still out there.

The End Times where a complete mess, it retconned lot's of the lore already stablished and most of it felt forced, mainly because well, it was forced. They needed to end the story in a way that allowed them to launch the new game with the new factions they had designed, that was their main objective, not writing a good story, and so they wrote a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ one.

Personally, I ignore all the nonsense concerning End Times, as far as I'm concerned Archaon failed in the Storm of Chaos and was defeated.

warhammer lore was always better in the old days when it was just fragments, and you could fill in the holes with your imagination.

if you ever read a warhammer novel and thought "this is good, I will continue to do this," or if you saw "the end times" as anything other than a hack way to introduce a new game and $$ for GW, you deserve everything that's happening to your feels about the lore

I generally dislike Chaos because I enjoy my Evil in various shades of Lawful.

However, there are a few Chaos themed novels that make Chaos factions seem like more than just loser apocalyptic cultists.

40K is some warped parody of WFB, chaos here are bad ass Vikings with plate armor

Chaos in 40k is a buncha whiny cry babies with daddy issues

Always was just an alternate timeline as far as I cared.. A silly rushed scenario with total Chaos victory as the only outcome (other players and collections be damned) Even designed by 40k fans at heart with the aim to destroy a competing game world. I'd followed the hobby for decades and this show was not put on by the background originators. Temporary failed stewards at best (harsh, I know, but were talking a good trample on the heavily invested hobby of thousands... dagnabbit). I knew it would be back : )

They need only "finish" this scenario by granting every player faction a chance to win total victory. Funny part is several other factions dominating or destroying the planet would probably come more naturally. Greenskins for instance.

Not to mention Skarsnik, who did not a whole lot during the end times because the writer forgot about him.

Just ignore the end times and forget it ever happened, that's what I do
Queco Jones21 Nov 19, 2019 @ 5:27am
Yeah, End Times is crap. I mysef treat it more like the Storm of Chaos, which imo was told better, but was basically ignored/retconned by GW after it happened.

Just ignore End Times. Treat it as a what if scenario or something. Its total bullcrap.
