What happens to Malus' mechanics if you confederate him?
Does he still suffer the debuffs from being possessed - both in campaign and in battle?

Just checked this out - as Malekith, you can apparently confederate him by about turn 5 if you throw around 15K at him - and he seems to get stuck at full Possession. Of course, the MECHANICS around Possession rank are Malus-specific, so if you confederate him, he always has a 30% Ward save and can transform into T'zarkan at any time, with no downsides whatsoever.

Woot.

Ah, ok; so I guess he's at whatever he was at before confederation?

Probably. Not sure if the AI even USES Elixirs, honestly. Would be quite nasty to end up with Malus having just used one and be unable to transform. He'd be WORSE than a normal Dreadlord at that point.

Still, if anyone wants to go for a longer playthrough, you start as Military Allies with him when playing as Malekith, so you can keep a good eye on him. If he does happen to drink an Elixir at any point, let us know. It'll be interesting information.

So basically, best way to play Malus is to play Malekith. That is hilarious.

Malekith is best emo-psycho-edgeboi.

Meh, they overlooked Malus mechanic a bit. I mean with Repanse, you become godlike on level 10, when your whole army can get frenzy. Repanse herself has insane stats with a bit of investment and all those bretonnia traits unlocking, that Malus can dream of, in addition to all other things going on. Who even needs any transformations.

Havent played Malus extensively, only a bit. Will give a more elaborate try, though i thought his campaign would be a bit more thought out. At least a bit more rewarding in the end.

The plague boost for Skrolk is quite nice too. Even skavenslaves suddenly find themselves able to hold the line...

I'm just stating the facts as I have discovered them. You get the full benefits of Malus, T'zarkan, and a free Black Ark really early in the game, on the other side of the map so that you can start slaughtering over there; without needing to worry about public order, melee skill, or global replenishment penalties.

If you can manage an early confederation with him as Malekith, you're laughing all the way to the endgame.

How you wish to interpret this is entirely up to you.

Seriously this. I confederated them second, after my bloody friend Helebron, naturally, no gold, only declare war on their enemies. They were not able to expand from the Island, but you get Malus with stupidly upgraded Black Ark and 1 decent safe province. Since AI cheats you get superb Black Ark that can't leave the area, but hey you can recruit everything from it without upgrading settlements around and for supporting your work as you sack ♥♥♥♥ out of regions around.

You're supposed to be able to disband and re-recruit Black Arks now, so it can leave the area unless something breaks in the code.

Malus was clearly approached to be a multiplayer character where transformation can turn a skirmish battle but his campaign mechanics, the elixer system and all are garbage

CA really dropped the ball with him

I can't explain why, and excuse the old thread bump, but I've entirely lost the transformation/possession mechanic altogether for Malus after confederating him as Malekith, and I have no clue whatsoever why.

Faction mechanics like that only apply to the original faction, your faction was never that of Malus so you never had to deal with it.
