Effective use of Black Arks?

Hi,
Just started a Lokhir Felhart campaign, and was wondering how do I use them properly or what their actual use is? Are they mainly used for transporting and supporting raiding armies in far off areas of the map?

I've always neglected the black ark mechanic in the past when it comes to DE's, but I hear they got a buff sometime in the last year or two so I'd like to use them and see how they go.

1)They serve as your replacement for global recruitment. Their military buildings are relatively cheap for what they offer.

2)They support troops in their circle with replenishment and powerful artillery abilities, and if you build certain buildings you get more post-battle rewards as well.

3)Their upkeep for troops is greatly reduced, so they're excellent for both ferrying troops and for offense. Using them to go around sacking enemy ports is very nice.

So basically, use them offensively on ports, use them to support your armies with artillery abilities/bonuses, and use them to make up for the lack of nearby good military buildings. So if you're invading a new continent, they are extremely useful since you dont have global recruitment.

They give you 3 in battle spells to use on the right side of screen, you can also upgrade these spells by building up the ark. It works aslong as you have a fight within the big circle that you get when you select the ark

[Dragon Master]

When they're placed in the expansion stance, all armies in their circle of influence will also gain replenishment, keeping the strength of your armies up outside of recruitment as well.

The admirals in charge of each black ark also don't have a loyalty meter to keep track of and they don't add to the supply lines of having extra armies, although they still have the cost increases that extra supply lines add in to all armies.

Just on another note, can black arks replenish outside of a friendly zone? I have been raiding and pillaging up and down lustria but even when I set my ark to replenish stance my troops usually have "local effect unable to replenish" or something to that effect

This sound normal?

I think they can only replenish in a friendly port, or thats what ive experienced. Kinda makes sense really given how would a ship on the open ocean replenish?

You have to be in friendly territory to replenish. Waters have regions just like other terrain does, and you have to own some.

Yeah it does make sense I guess. I had held out hope Black Arks would be able to replenish themselves with their aura (albeit slower than a land based 'encamp' stance)

Does make raiding a little trickier, I guess you have to create a land army alongside the black ark to be really effective? As in carry an extra army around on the Ark along side the Arks own army (just to be safe)?

Regroup them, so they benefit from each other aura, don't forget to put them in the good stance.

Do you mean merge the troops on the black ark? or do you have an army 'follow' the black ark? (I don't know if black arks can carry a secondary army)
