It's not much though. 1 influence per turn for releasing captives. Takes forever to recruit a good hero or lord. Even with the influence generating building. And then if you want to recruit and dump cycle for lords with good traits it takes even more.
When you complete the province on turn 1, set the province bonus to reaver patrol(I think, or something like that. It is the first of the province bonuses), as this will enable the rite to create the unique assassin hero on turn 2.
This unique assassin can kill any hero or lord, at a very high %(150% or 200%, but will just show as 100% on campaign). The assassin dies with it's target though.
However, it is still very useful for hunting down far away bounties, or for taking out troublesome lords to make an assault easier.
The issue with the bounties is, the target can get killed before you get to them. And targets at sea(on boat) cant be attacked by your assassin.
Other than that, get a Noble hero, as they can aquire Influence from enemy(and other) settlements. And they are definately the most reliable source of Influence once you get a few of them going.
When they have maxed their influence stat, they can generate 6 influence per turn.
Nobles can generate 6 per turn, build the building and grab a 0 influence one ASAP
I actually reccomend assassinating the closest target, far ones will get killed before you get there most likely.
Recrute a Noble hero and use his campaign action "get influence" by targeting a city.
As for using a Lord for influence, just buy the building (bottom building, 2nd from right), and get a lord without too terrible effects. Send them a ways off to a city of some faction you don't mind pi$$ing off (they won't like it) and "Secure Influence" for the next 20+ turns. Fill in the bottom 4 3-button skills (the far right one first, to get % chance increase and less cost). After you max those out, I usually bring him back home to follow my main attacker(s) killing enemy lords, assaulting garrisons/units, etc.
As for the campaign, I always recruit 10-12 of the 2-turn recruiting shadow guys while moving towards Morathi. With those, a few tanks, and a few bolt throwers, I'll very shortly maneuver her into an ambush where she gets completely wiped. Then the 4-region Province falls shortly thereafter.
That said, I'm a total amateur at this game, so open to somebody telling me the above is all wrong! ;)
unify your province to put down the reaver edict so you can recruit assassins on turn 2
recruit 1 turn shadow units (idk which are which) since you can get twice as many as if you go with the 2 turn variant
move towards morathi while recruiting, then use ambush stance, you’ll lose some territory to other dark elves but wiping morathi early could be a strong start.
