How Good Are You With Harpies?
Rakarth's campaign in a nutshell. You get sooooooooo many of them. And their upkeep is 0 in Rakarth's army.

I find they're actually a really good unit if used correctly.

you better using giant wolfs

But you get soooooo many more harpies. And harpies, like all flying cav that are not fellbats or TK vultures, are a surprisingly good unit.

No ones taken harpies seriously. It's like Carrion.

That said, rakarths buffs make them excellent chaff shields.

Yeah, that's what people think. But harpies wreck Bretonnian and Empire armies. Unlike carrion and fellbats, harpies can actually beat handgunners and archers in melee combat.

If i had them, send them after archers ore artillery. They beat archers, and as metioned before they do it much better than bats and carrions (which lose aiganst everything even if they come from behind).

I much prefer Wolves... Both need insane micro but wolves are way more effective, Harpies are slow flyers and are shredded by any missile unit, whereas Wolves are fast, can hide ...

In an open field battle, wolves are much better. But good luck trying to get them to attack archers on a wall. Harpies can do that.

Wolves eat gates in no time, at least Drycha's wolves did, didn't test Rakarth's :steammocking:

Harpies tend to show up in "underestimated units" discussions and videos a lot.

They are feeble and die quickly and tend to be damaged even if you win.

But they do a surprising amount of damage and are very good at flanking, i rate them as rather good units, but do advice anyone using them to consider them expendable troops.

Do they still do that? They got nerf'ed quite hard in the patch.

GIANT WOLVES
Melee Building Damage changed from 40 to 5

Hard battle difficulty makes them a bad prospect, but air for DE(save for Rakarth) flies under the radar*heh* because harpies and manticore need both moving down to T2 and T3 respectively buying into them I think is a complete waste of time, they might have better windows to operate in. in basic tiers Harpies basically end up and can be used as being a shield for manticore which can help with the rampage mechanic though by the time you at dragon recruiting stages harpies are just obsolete. They are a T2 basic unit which sit in an advanced chain, its sparta levels of madness.

Raid the right lands. Giant Wolves every other turn with 1 army.

Harpies are waaay better than carrions. Their ability to gang up quickly on low model count important enemy unit (including flying ones) is very valuable.
That being said, that's not the kind of unit that you want more than 2 or 3 per armies, unless they're bufed to the roof by something.

True. Harpies never were terrible, they just were outshined by normal DE stuff. But with rakarth... They are still outshined but at least cheap and abundant ^^

Yeah, harpies are sterling. Surprisingly high melee defence, massive melee damage - not like those fell bats, their melee damage is high and includes AP damage. With rakarth's buffs, they go from okay to amazing.

They still have one drawback: Way too low melee attack for the model count, but research gives them +5, that helps. They're getting 200+ kills in my battles, and seeing them descend on some hapless units is terrifying. :)

Don't get me wrong, I love dire wolves, they're a staple unit. That combination of murderocity and mobility is great, but in rakarth's army, I removed them in favor of harpies, they're doing way better.
