Lore explanation for german vampire names?
Hello, I often encounter vampires/vampire pirats with funny german names. For example Steinsägemühle what translates as Stone saw mill. Is there an explanation in the lore how these names come to be and are they the same in other game languages (I play in german) too?

Probably because initial tabletop Warhammer had them. I remember one of the printed RPG modules having Slaaneshi named Emmanuelle Fleischflasher (iirc), Erica Furrfondler and so on. Kislev was a parody on Hollywood Russian tropes, too. And there were lots of other such little inside jokes. Some of them survived to later editions.

empire also has german names or atleast they sound german

for vampire counts aren't they old empire people ? who basicly whent to the dark arts long long ago

Idk about the vampire pirates but the Sylvanian counts were men of Empire and Empire is based on late HRE/Prussia. To be fair they should keep the German names to actual vampires (or for some cases Necromancers, but necros can be from other places too) and not other monsters as well. It's kinda funny or immersion breaking to see a Strigoi with German names.

Oh, it gets worse. Far far worse.
Alot of Lizardmen characters (non legendary ones) are Dutch words.

For instance Best'lbus
Which is Dutch for Delivery van. (though there's a E and not a ')
Another would be called Friqandel. Which is a Dutch sausage.
Rattenmepper. = Rat catcher.
The list goes on.

Fairly certain other races have weird connections to other languages as well. Wouldn't even surprise me.

Well Warhammer is supposed to be cheesy. Just look at the Orcs and their naming conventions. Big Boyz? WAAAAAGH? Da'Ardboyz? Da Alpha Orc? So yeah aside from the Sylvanian who has a legit reason for having a German name, I wouldn't be surprised if they use names like that for other races.

Friqandel = Frikadelle in German is a meat patty with bread and egg parts. I think they took what ever they tought sound funny for an english speaker. Monty pyhton was very fond of pseudo german words in their flying circus.

- 500g hash or mince (if you speak british english) best half pork half cattle
- 1 onion (chop into small pieces before adding)
- 1 Brötchen (wheat bread) - soak with water or milk
- 1 egg
- salt and pepper (maybe chili if you like hot dishes)

Use your hands to mix it and you get a nice patty.

Use a frying pan with butter or oil to cook it properly.

Thanks! I will see if I can find some substitute for Brötchen since I doubt they sell that here.

A baguette will do (if you are in france), or any sandwich bread made of wheat.

Mazdamundi is named after Mazda. Lord Kroak is a frog. As someone mentioned above, Tiktaq'to... well just say his name out loud.

Oh and if we ever see Nippon as a TWW3 DLC, get ready for House Toyota to be a playable faction.

Warhammer is a silly game. People like to meme on the Vampire Coast names (♥♥♥♥ Half-Mast, Charlie Brown, etc.) but let's be fair, those are perfectly within the Warhammer naming scheme.
