basically, AP is always good, take AP pretty much always against chaos and AL.
the rest is whatever
if its early game you shouldnt have black guard already it takes a while to get that growth with malekith, if you are in late game you shouldnt have any bleakswords cause they'll lose all the time. any elite infantry will beat them, especially with the threat of mazda, high elves.. etc.
to answer your question directly, remove as many bleakswords as possible and replace with something with more function or damage, executioners, maybe shades with greatswords.
I learned to spam halberdiers as a line to hold them, while elites (greatswords and others) do the actual killing. And lots of handgunners & Helguns/Great cannons! You should upgrade them with the "Anti-Large" upgrade too!
Those older units that worked great against other races (basic archers, crossbows, swords/spears, mortars, the "missile launcher"etc) barely do anything against Chaos. I had to learn it the hard way
Have it stock up Shades and Kharibdis. kharibdis are excellent anti-large, and tanky enough to buy time for the shades to fire.
You'll likely have to deploy it beyond the walls, so in preparation for the inevitable invasion, train up a Supreme Sorceress of Fire, Shadow, or Dark. When the invasion is coming, move the army to her, and get her in position to intercept. Fire and Shadow excel in cleaning out Chosen and Knights that have engaged your Kharybdis, and Dark can soften them up with bladewind, but excels at wearing down the lords, heroes, shaggoths, etc, with soul stealers.
Since SFO malekith makes Black Guard unbreakable, a few of them are ideal with a Dark sorc, since Soul Stealer won't tear into them like a Fire Storm or Pit of Shades would. So they can pin down the single entities for you to magically hammer (and for the shades to shoot to pieces.
Obviously, you can increase effectiveness with things like Hydrablood masters thrown in, or use a confederated Malus to wreck them.
And Nagarrond and Hag Graef, where the chaos Invasion hits early, are both ports. And by using an ark to produce troops, you can use the build slots for other things, like stuff to help you afford more troops.
