A + 1000 ish mass increase, meaning they can push aside enemy unit's way more easily, while not being pushed themselves.
In Thoreks case, being on the anvil also unlocks his map wide +24 melee attack and fear buff.
25% actually. Had to check, I thought he lost physical resist, but he does gain 25%.
