TK is actually pretty fun, as they come with their own agenda* and do not require you to do anything 'forced' - like the vortex-race.
Their start is a bit tricky, as you have to fight with and rely on garbage-units, and it takes a bit to get to the really cool stuff. And once you are there - it is massive fun!
I kinda enjoyed Khalida a lot - the snake-mount animation is gorgeous. Settra is too OP *lol* and Exiles *hmm* I currently struggle with them, as I want the missing achievements, but also finish the campaign, and also not being stopped by some major DLC, that made my campaign obsolete without being forced to roll back to the pre-patch. (like 2 times already *shakes fist*)
edit:
*"Settra does not serve, he rules"
In gameplay they're the most balanced undead. Armies can play pretty conventional in comparison to coast, with no melee and counts, with no ranged.
Unlike counts/coast, your leaders usually aren't raid bosses and you don't have lore of vamps. But you DO have constructs, glorious constructs. Massive unbreakable monsters that I THINK don't crumble either and can be healed via necrotects for a good chunk of HP.
But you won't have these for a while in campaign. So it's skelibois who are pretty bad until you do.
(be careful, they have DRASTICALLY DIFFERENT playstyle!)
(Khatep is best!)
WE will prolly leave you alone .... DE is busy with a lot of other added Lords. Your starting position is super easy to defend.....you can bother anything that you feel like, which unlocks the precious RoR units earlier O_O !!
Khalida in vortex has so much stuff to deal with.....I think it ain't better in ME (Snikch & Kroq'gar)
The faction is absolutely fine in it's current state - it is one of the most complete factions starting on release. They added the fluff Bone-giant to fully complete the roster according the army book. They have dominating purpose at any range given!
Even the MP-balancing doesn't affect the faction at all - because your tech/lord-skill completely offset them and turn lowly units into really precious stuff.
My very, very own complain is the speed of the Hierotitan - it should move like the Giant at a speed of 46-52 and not crawling speed.
It's missing the Khemric Titan from the Monstrous Arcanum - which CA has used to add quite a lot of units to the game :P
It's possibly one of the best race DLC's CA have ever made, so well worth it. I easily got 3-400 hours out of just vanilla Tomb Kings, so especially if you grab it on sale for half price it's a very good return.
