Sisters of Twilight Campaign...?
Can you ever build a fortress at a choke point or at a city when playing this new faction in the Grand campaign?

Not seeing anyway to build a fortress anywhere currently.

Thanks!

Wood Elves can never have walled settlements.

Just do this. If you can't have a fort, then no one else will have a fort. Destroy and take over all spots on the map. Can't have enemies if there are none left.

I am but the damn chaos invasion wrecks me every time.

I need a choke point to stop the hordes or I keep getting steamrolled.

And keeping more than a single army in reserve for when they show is not cost or expansion effective.

Wrong, if you capture a high elf gate for example you get a wall, but the garrison you get will never stand a chance aiganst even a trash army. The only good non tree settlements are main faction capitals, Elven colonies, and Miragliano. Capitals (and for some reasons Miragliano) give 10% factionwide income and they have a usefull ore even good garrison. Elven colonies have a good garrison and a harbor which give at least a bit money.

Wood elves can only "fortify" their forests with the defensive structures and occasional shrines which boost local army effectiveness. +200% ammo and +30% reload speed more than make up for walls in almost all situations. Wood elves rely more on ambushes to fight against overwhelming odds.

just wanted to add capitols also get 2 slots for building and they can get a decently beefy defense force

To deal with Chaos, the best method is to catch the front-running army in an ambush with a treeman stack, and then lightningstrike the rest until they're gone or you're down to 10% movement. At 10%, return to ambush stance (because that's all WE need to enter ambush).

Let them blow up the stuff other factions have, so long as it's not getting ruin-dwelled by enemies. Who cares about the land that's /not/ the magic forests?

Just kill archeon, sigvald, and Kholek. Chaos invasion disappears.

Aren't tree-men weak vs Armour though?

Problem is I've already conquered Malatek's territory in the North when he declared war on me now I'm the one who's cities are getting razed every time Chaos enters the game from the N West...

Theoretically, yeah, treemen would be...if they didn't do so much damage that they splatter the Warriors and Chosen /anyway/. The armor just makes them crunchy.

Sometimes, you don't need AP if you just have /very high/ damage output.
