It's their kink. It's not unfair cause you can defend against it (and in your case the issue was your ambush stance was detected and Skaven turned that idea against you, not exactly unheard of in RL).
The issue is the map, I understand, I agree. Should not be March ambush maps only, and maybe that will change cause it's not a new complaint.
But, Skaven AI is pretty weak, they didn't do sth you as a player couldn't do and the main issue was that enemy heroes/armies in your ambushing armies vision range spotted it, which was the reason why they could ambush you in the first place. Sth you could have prevented but there always is the chance for bad luck.
Plus Skaven ambush battle AI is pretty bad on top.
it's not fine. It's a horrible mechanic.
Evenmore so because you MUST fight the ambush, because autoresolve is so in favor of the Ambushing party.
If in a siege, and the skaven army attack moves on my sieging army. I should be at their walls, able to be deployed. With their main army in a flanking position.
Not walking along some road where I wait 20 seconds before I can move.
Dont worry
Nothing will change
And a new thread in 2 weeks about it

Had a 4v1 ambush battle during my Grimgor campaign with Grom. 4 Black Orcs, 4 Goblins, some snotlings, arachnaroks, goblin shaman, some archers and managed to win. Was my own stupid fault though for underwaying next to their settlement but it was a glorious battle. Goblins with Grom are ridiculous and held the line just as great as the Black Orc did.
I hate facing Alith Anar (an ambusher) and probably Tyrion more than any other lords, but it keeps the game interesting.
Does this still work? It doesn't seem to have been updated in a while.
A more fitting map would make sense.
Dont spend all your points on attack rating and damage for your lord!
The game has the tools but you refuse to use them over and over again.
In other words, up your game.
