Otherwise Fire or Heaven are the best due to their spells.
Life is great if you plan to use a lot of high health models(chariots, monsters, heroes) but is mostly a reactive force rather than proactive(so best used for an Archmage, since they can get an offensive mount and the Chainlightning active ability to compensate).
High Magic has a little bit of everything, so if in doubt, take that(you will always have a useful tool). Also, it is superb against fliers and enemy casters.
Shadow and Beast were both nerfed in the recent patch, and while still good at what they do, they are less prominent.
Or Light if you're using mass Sisters of Avelorn.
OP, high magic sucks.
End of stroy.
So rare to see another person who appreciates the Lore of Metal. Still wish the Empire would get generic Gold Wizards already.
All the other vortex spells veer off in the direction you don't want them to, and then float around the map doing nothing, laughing at your stupidity for casting it in the first place. They average like 50 kills per cast, whereas pit of shades averages 100+ BECAUSE IT GOES WHERE IT'S DIRECTED AND IT DOESN'T MOVE.
