Zoats reskinned Dragon Ogres?
Not complaining, just want to see what other people think and if in lore that'd make sense

Well, if you compare classic warhammer fantasy artwork of zoats to dragon ogres, they have almost identical body shapes and both are known to wield massive 2-handed melee weapons. So honestly it makes sense why they use the same animations as making an entirely new set of animations would be both expensive and kinda pointless.

I mean I guess that if you like looking at you clicking auto resolve every battle it should be kinda pointless to put any artistic depth and effort into anything happening in the battlefield of the game whatsoever. Quantity over quality Am I rite?

Who cares about hard work put into stuff. Nobody will notice it anyway.

I think the point is that, even if you did give the Zoats custom attack animations, the effort and time spent doing that would yield much less noticeable and interesting results than if the same effort was put into other things and you just used the dragon ogre animations. Like, they look fine with those animations, and so the choice is between making another set of animations that they'd also look fine with or adding, say, other units or fleshing out Drycha's faction or something.

I mean you do realize that besides the reused animations zoats are different than dragon ogres right? The last I checked dragon ogres weren't a part of the wood elf roster nor could they cast spells.

Don't bother. These are all petty trolls. I mean in real life we use same excel templates and models every day every month and create new reports and call that work and collect salary. Sure some analysis goes into it. But by the reskin zoats logic all we do is reskin of last month's work.

If reusing animations for creatures with similar body types and function is such a huge issue to you then you must really hate this game considering how many units use the same animations like archers, horsemen, spearmen, footlords, etc.

If two units have near identical body types and do very similar things, I don't see what's the issue with reusing the same animation sets. Would having a high elf archer and wood elf archer have slightly different firing animations really add that much quality to the game? Does having a bretonnian horse and empire horse move the exact same way really shatter your immersion or ruin the game for you?

Reusing animations isn't that big a deal, but when the voice lines for the old units they reskinned are left in, the corner cutting becomes irksome and yes, immersion breaking.

I don't care if the new lizard centaurs swing their hammers like dragon ogres, but can they at least not use the same sound file when they do it?

They both have reptilan/draconic lower bodies and humanoid torsos, arms and heads, so why not. Its like using the same animations for an elf swordman and a human one. Don't know if the Devs did, but wouldn't be much difference.

Look them up on the warhammer fantasy wiki. They look exactly how GW designed them several decades ago.

And at least this reskin makes sense. I'm not sure if they fixed the moronic decision to give Khalida some dark elf sorceress melee animations, which made her about as effective a duelist as a wet towel.

Zoats have different animations and aoe passive spells.

From what i have seen, zoats have one new casting animation, the clubbing is recycle .

Should be mentioned that while they share some animations with dragon ogres they do have some of their own as well. For example their idle animation where they fiddle around with magic.

Point is we do extra work if required and leverage on existing stuff and do the smart work at other times. In this case both are pretty similar units. So there is nothing wrong with using the base model and common animations. Thats the analogy.
