Old World Map

As a slight break from the consistent DLC doom/bloomposting, what would people think about CA reinstating the Old World, and that only in TWW2. I wouldnt mind playing a Grimgor campaign without Skaven but with the new campaign mechanics, or Bretonnia without worrying about the Ikit doomstack I know is coming to eat me.

I think he means to have the old world map from the first game but with the updates and extra mechanics for the factions based there that came with game 2. So the Empire getting its Elector counts system, Greenskins having their newer Waghaa mechanic ect.

I suppose it would be interesting but I feel its unlikely I would actually use it much myself.

I was randomly thinking about that today. Never played TWWH1; got in late. But I'd like to play it in TWWH2; just a smaller version of the old world map.

I think the issue with that it would A) be a lot of work for something that likely not that many people would be interested in, B) would set the precedent for them retaining and continuing update all maps which would in turn make the 3rd game's development a even bigger nightmare as they would have to update the old world map, Vortex map, mortel empires map, Warhammer 3's base map, and the immortal empires map whenever a new dlc or major content update comes out, and C) doing so would add a lot of unnessary bloat to the game files.

It'd be interesting but the net gain would mostly be saving install space, secondary benefit would be having the updated balancing and units. You can just go back and install the first game, but that's also about 50 gigs of space just to keep one campaign, and miss out on Game 2 DLCs and changes.

I think it could be a great idea for Game 3, have every campaign available so that we can just have 1 game installed to have access to all 3 that we own, also an opportunity to bring back the mini campaigns Wood Elves and Beastmen had, with the new DLC units, mechanics and balancing.

You wouldn't really be bloating any game files. The map files themselves are not that big, especially if they can just reuse the same files for each campaign and just redraw boundaries. You might add a few hundred kilobytes in .txt files or similar. It'd save a metric ton of space over having multiple installs, especially by game 3 where you'd need to install about 150~ Gigs worth if you truly want every campaign, just to have multiple copies of the same data like unit models, music and sounds, etc. etc.

I'm actually very disappointed they didn't do something similar to Relic's Dawn of War, which allows the expansions to actually be stand-alone installs OR share resources, saving a lot of space. Problem is, Denuvo wouldn't be very effective in that scenario.

Nm that Skaven would still make an appearance. Lorewise they have at least a couple of major clan holdings in the Old World.

Two things I'd like

1) For CA to allow us to play Warhammer 1 and warhammer 2 campaigns in warhammer 3. Votex is fun; old world with less factions is fun and its nice to have those options in the newest game without having to have all the 10s of GB of the previous games installed (Esp on ssd drives)

2) I'd welcome it also because it allows games which offer smaller large scale war. Mortal Empires is FANTASTIC; but its also huge and possible to burn out long before you finish. I'd welcome the smaller campaign maps or even just some generic 20 faction maps or such so that you can have custom games.


Basically I hope CA offers us some ways to play earlier game factions in smaller games in Warhammer 3
