Mutant Rat Ogres?
Don't get me wrong, I'm a Skaven main and I am as hyped as anyone to see that we are finally getting Moulder.

But what exactly are the point of these mutant rat ogre things? Were they a thing on the tabletop? And aren't all rat ogres supposed to be mutants of some kind? The only reason the rat ogre units all look the same is because CA didnt fancy making unique models for every one.

And what purpose are they supposed to serve? Rat Ogres as they are now are supposed to act as a sort of pseudo-cavalry unit for a race that doesn't have any, not unlike skin wolves. (even if Doom-flayers kind of rendered them obsolete in that regard).

Are they supposed to be some sort of speedy monster to charge priority targets? Isnt that what the brood horror is for? Are they supposed to be some sort of linebreaker? We already have one of those in the hell pit abomination! (and doomwheel)

It feels like they really wanted to add in stormfiends, but weren't allowed due to needing some units left over for the Thanquol DLC in 3. (a fact reinforced by how Ghorich currently looks) Which makes sense, but wont that just result in these things being completely pointless once Stormfiends DO arrive?

I get they needed to add a certain number of units to make the DLC something people actually wanted to buy, but what are these things supposed to actually do?

Are you of the same opinion that almost 100% of this DLC is just a lazy reskin of previous units?

No. Otherwise instead of making this thread about the single unit I do have a problem with, I'd be joining one of the other 300 threads whining about how everything is awful.

I mean it is just the bonebreaker as a SEU instead of a mount

It is a stronger and bigger rat ogre that also goes solo.
It's a relatively easy extra to make that will surely have some interesting renown variant that resembles stormfiends.

They were a thing on tabletop, alongside Augmented Rat Ogres (the precursor to Stormfiends) and Armoured Rat Ogres.

A major thing with the rats is that they already have many of their niches filled. They aren't missing anything that I can see. Each dlc they got filled a hole and now they don't really have a hole that needs filling (giggity).

I see it as just another option for preference. Kind of wish they would give love to the races that have holes in their roster rather than giving skaven more toys, but I don't think having more options in and of itself is bad.

Honestly I'd need to see its stats to really know what it'd be useful for, if it's as fast as rat ogres and presumably would have a bigger charge then it'd be a pretty neato high mass monster for charging were as the hellpit was slower and not so great at charges, though I though that this role was that of the brood horror, however it could be that they have the same role but the brood horror is a lower tier while the rat ogre is a higher tier like how bastiladons and stegadons work for the lizardmen.

They could also function similar to a giant instead where they're slower than regular rat ogres but can just brawl well in a fight, perhaps similar to a hellpit but anti infantry specialization instead of anti large.

I'm assuming the first one would be most likely, which does seem rather nice since having something akin to a warsphinx or stegadon would be an amazing addition, bringing even more mass and size than doom flayers or doom wheels.

Skaven's gotta have those holes doublestuffed, fill all the niches. :P

They were a thing. As for what they're for compared to the normal version, we would first need to see their stats, which I believe won't be before mid next week so until then we can't really discuss of that.

I just think that whatever we get for skaven is pretty weak overall. Ok so we get hound units which is probably great for multiplayer for people who know what they are doing.
We re getting a couple of sub par giant units and that s all. Just nerfed versions of whatever other factions cna have.

They did not have hounds and now they do. AS for the giant units that we now have i dont know. it doesnt feel very impactful.

A shame but i can't use rat ogres properly...sure, they are fast and deadly, but they really cant handle any damages...unable to make them viable for a campaign army, i hope theses super giant rat will tank a bit more :)

Well i cant see the giant rat ogre doing more damage when compared to a pack of small rat ogres. I fail to see the purpose for this unit to be honest.

agree but being a little bit more resilient could be nice. Rat Ogres are rats, ok, but still Ogres, and for now they seems really weak no?
Kyso4ek Nov 21, 2020 @ 5:27am
Yes they are very weak. I d like to compare then to the skin wolves and see which is better.
