What Have I Got Them Exactly?
I purchased the first game (Total War Warhammer 1) for a friend on Steam and was thinking that they would have Mortal Empires as free content, but I now realise that I need both Warhammer games (1 & 2) in order for them to play Mortal Empires.

So, If they don't have access to Mortal Empires, then what does the base game consist of for them anyway?

And, would they still be compatible with me using both both Warhamer games (1 & 2) with all the DLC available. Could I still play the game with that person?

Ummm, were you expecting to be able to play together with one playing WH2 while the other is playing WH1? They're different applications...

You bought them WH1, so they have the content that base WH1 has.

If you want to play together, you both must be playing either WH1, or WH2. And if you want to play Mortal Empires together, then both need WH2 and WH1.
If you both have WH1 and WH2, then you can play Mortal Empires together, and you can use whatever DLCs YOU have, while he can use what HE has.

Both of games have its campaign and list of factions to play said campaign. For TWW1 it is old world, for TWW2 it is lustria, naggarond, ulthuan and araby. Those are different maps and different parts of warhammer world. Basic campaign for TWW 2 is called VORTEX. IN game 2 there is also option to play map, that combines maps and factions from TWW1 and TWW2, it is called MORTAL EMMPIRES. In mortal empire you have more or less generic goals, but ultimately you have sandbox with factions from both games present on combined map from game 1 and game 2.

So, if your friend have only tww1 you can play tww1 together. But he cant play tww2. If your friend have tww2, but not tww1 - you can play vortex campaign together, although since it is not sandbox, there are limits to what you can play in coop mode. Some factions can only be played as pvp. And only if you both have tww1 and tww2 you can play mortal empires together.

Thanks for your answers. I downloading and installing TW - WH 1 right now. I have already got TW -WH 2 installed and ready to play. I'm just downloading the first one for enough compatibility now.

Save yourself the trouble and don't download TW1 unless you're playing it with your friend. You don't need TW1 installed to access the Mortal Empires content and TW2's iteration of the TW1 factions is much, much better.

Mind you you dont need TWW1 to be installed to play moretal empires campaign in tww2. Only dl it if your friend own tww1 but not tww2.

So, I did down load the first game in the series again, and not sure what my friend has yet. But he told me he now has all the free DLC that came with it. So what factions does he have access to?

Only the Empire, Vampires, Dwarves and Orcs?

He really wanted Elves, but he missed out on getting the second game in tat discount sale that's now over.

BTW, is it just me, or is the first game much harder than the second one?

Empire, Vampires, Dwarfs, Greenskins, and Bretonnia.
Those are the base, and free, races in WH1.
remember theres free stuff on total war access also for both games ( lords, units etc), don't just look at steams dlc section.

Yep exactly what he told me , plus some extra faction belonging to the ones already mentions. Thanks for your help.

We attempted to play a multiplayer game together just now and he picked the Vampire Counts as his first faction. I suggest he pick something easier like the Empire or Bretonians and then he admitted to me that he didn't have a clue what he was doing and that he was a little drunk to. He said he wasn't sure what to start with doing at as he had the first move.

So any video tutorials on You-Tube to suggest to him?

BTW, I picked Clan Angrund Dwarves. My Favourites.

Yep I told him and I think he registered and linked both accounts. Not sure what is on there for him though.

For WH1, the only thing on Access are the regiments of renown for the DLC races and Bretonnia.

Vampire Counts aren't particularly hard.
Empire could actually pose a bit more challenge since you're frequently harassed by beastmen who then proceed to run away and hide outside your range.
Bretonnia isn't hard, but has those 20 turns of Greenskin incursions public order penalty, of which only Louen has an easy way to deal with.

So is Gotrek the Felix DLC, only for the second game. It doesn't say so, but i haven't tried building a Tap Room in the first game yet. So, I'm not altogether sure.

Gotrek and Felix is WH2 only.
