Best pure damage Empire Wizard?
Hello all.
Of the Empire Wizards, which school of magic has the best range of damage spells?
I can only afford 1 and am in need of a good unit damage spell slinger.

If you really can only get one wizard as Empire, and assuming this if for an ME campaign, my recommendation would be Bright Wizard. There are several wizards with high damage output, and imo the differences between them in terms of pure damage aren't big enough to really recommend one over the other if that's your only scale. However, as Empire your most immediate rivals, Vampires, Norsca and even Greenskins, all field scary units with regeneration and/or weakness to fire and for your purposes that gives the Bright Wizard the edge in my book. He'll be about as effective as any other high damage mage in most cases, but when he's burning his way through the dangerous monsterous units you are likely to run into like Skinwolves or Vargulfs or Trolls, he's going to have an edge that the other wizards can't match. Better still, he'll have the ability to lend that edge to your other troops with some of his buffs.

So for an Empire campaign if you can only pick one Wizard, Bright is probably the best choice. In the long term, your opponents' weaknesses to fire means he ends up being capable of doing the most damage.

Fire, Shadow and Death are probably your best bets there depending on what you need. Check the spell browser and pick one that suits you.

Is the Amesthyst Wizard any good? I actually forgot it existed even though its new DLC,

The fire wizard without hesitation.

Death are petty good for single model with spirit drain, but all spell is so so when come to many models.

Looking at the spells, it seems to be either the Bright or Celestial Wizards have what I need.
Fire is always handy so am thinking that the Bright Wizard may fit best.

Bright or Celestial probably have the most raw destructive power.

I should give them another chance, though...

I havent played much since the Bretonnia rework so im not entirely sure about buffs/nerfs, but i remember shadow magic being utterly fantastic., especially on Pit of Shades.

Death seems to have been nerfed a little bit, though im not sure if it was enough to completely neuter it. I havent used light much before, so that might be nice.

What army are you hoping to use this wizard with, just out of interest? Karl, Gelt, Markus....
Kriss Sep 16, 2019 @ 12:52pm
Franzy boy, even if Gelt would buff them...

In campaign, probably bright wizard. Gelt is obviously stupid good too because of how spammy he can be. Lore of fire basically has a damage spell for every situation. Lord sniping, walls, blobs, battle lines, you name it, it can kill it. LOre of death is honestly a much better MP lore than SP lore, id say its actually fairly weak in campaign because of how few powerful AOE's it has, much like high magic or something.

I think they used be REALLY good for lord sniping but then this aspect got nerfed? Anyone confirm this isn't fake news?

The issue in SP though is that their AoE seems lacklustre to me. Might still be good against enemies that really depend on their lords though or have poor leadership.

Hard to go wrong with a Shadow wizard getting off a good pit of shades.
