Bretonnia Paladins vs Lords
Just starting a campaign, on Hard, as the Fay Enchantress. Was planning to put a Paladin with her as “the muscle.” However, after reading around here and such, I learned about that a Lord can be used often since there is no supply limit. Unless I am reading poorly, the Lord cost less and the upkeep is the same. Other than the fact that the Lord can’t be out exactly into the army, and thus if ambushed You’d lose them for that fight....I can’t tell that I should use Paladins. Maybe there is a special task they can do in the campaign that the Lord can’t do, but am I missing something?

Paladins give bonuses to the rest of the army. Training if I'm not mistaken, as well as increasing public order.

You use both. Get Lords and Paladins. That way you don't have to recruit any of Bretonnia's crappy infantry.

Lords and Paladins with a Life mage somewhere is going to be your front line. Works especially well with trebuchet armies since the enemy AI will blob around your heroes/lords, allowing you to visit meteoric devastation upon them.

Thank you both. I suppose early game when the economy is weak, just wasn’t sure the Paladin had a better use than the Lord

use both. you can only get 3 other lords reinforcing, but nothing stop you from having heroes in any of those armies.
Both paladins and lords have voes so the earlier you start using them and completing their voes, the better. Both of them gain perfect vigour (which is one of the best buff in the game) for free with their last vows, as well as nice stuff like free magic damage and a small MA/MD bonus adding up to their skill bonuses. Also, paladins have guardian, which makes lords near them more resistant. One more reason to use both side by side.

I forgot about the four army limit reinforcing. That makes perfect sense.

Old world melee hero's need some better unique skills and buffs. The virtues from the rule book would be a great way to spice up paladins add would adding hippogriph mounts. Empire captins could have company rules buffing either artillery, knights or foot soldiers and ofc the option of a griffion mount.

Dwarf thanes should get oathstones and be able to select certain runes that buffs the lords army.

You get the idea.
