Lords and Paladins with a Life mage somewhere is going to be your front line. Works especially well with trebuchet armies since the enemy AI will blob around your heroes/lords, allowing you to visit meteoric devastation upon them.
Both paladins and lords have voes so the earlier you start using them and completing their voes, the better. Both of them gain perfect vigour (which is one of the best buff in the game) for free with their last vows, as well as nice stuff like free magic damage and a small MA/MD bonus adding up to their skill bonuses. Also, paladins have guardian, which makes lords near them more resistant. One more reason to use both side by side.
I forgot about the four army limit reinforcing. That makes perfect sense.
Dwarf thanes should get oathstones and be able to select certain runes that buffs the lords army.
You get the idea.
