ratling guns not firing
started a new campaign with skavens and my ratling guns barely shoot in battle. I know they need line of sight, and that's the weird part : on top of the unit there is the sign indicating they are actually shooting, but i just spent 3 minutes looking at them and not a single bullet has been fired, even tho the game tells me they are actually shooting. i'm lost

The firing indicator is not accurate, every model can decide by itself if it has los or not and thus if it can fire or not.

This can result in the shenanigans that you experience, no los issue but not firing or red icon and still some/many are firing.

In your example, as you know I'm sure, it's because of the rats in front of them. Ideally build firing holes in your front formation that leaves out a hole your ratlings can shoot through. If it's small enough enemies will be bound by the frontline and don't run to the ratlings who in turn can fire away. Works with warpfire throwers as well but there the friendly fire will cause some issues .

Tl;Dr: don't trust the icon, trust your own eyes.

light brown, the usual when a unit is firing, not the obstructed one

Had this happen a few times in a recent campaign, not sure of the reason but Alt+Esc a few times out of the game then back in seemed to fix it!

TBF, I think Skaven teams SHOULD be able to fire at and through their own units. It's part of their lore.
yeah but that would imply CA has to program something and they are too lazy for that

Afaik they do have a lower friendly fire threshold than other direct fire units. Not sure if this is vanilla or sfo though

this is already programmed and even changeable in the game files. You can even turn off the friendly fire threshold completely, I remember at least one mod who did it though I do not know what happens if it's set to 0 completely

Edit:
This one for example:

Can't check the changed db tables as I usually do, not at home for a while but I'd reckon it's a per unit/missile weapon column and maybe a battle variable (to set minimum friendly fire or sth).
So nothing actually hard to change
