Is auto resolve that good or am I just that bad?
I'm currently playing a High Elf campaign on normal because I still suck at this game and I've been noticing that there are a lot of battles where the pre battle forecast says my forces are way superior and then I start the battle only see it's the opposite, and I lose. If reload an autosave and let the AI fight it out, I win. Is this a bug or something?

No, it can really happen in some specific cases that the auto resolve gives results better than pretty much any player can achieve. It's rarte though, and usually tied to the enemy army having one to a few units that the player's army has no answer for, but all of the other enemy units are easily killed by your troops.
The auto resolve will see the global value of your army as superior and will give you the win, but the reality is, if you play the battle, that single unit/few units you have no answer to will make the enemy win no matter what.

It's still pretty rare, but I've seen it happening. In those cases, I just auto resolve and take the resulting loss of units gladly over an almost unwinable fight.
Any other cases you're supposed to do WAY better than the auto resolve can.

Not really. Auto resolve in games is to make it where you don't have to see A.I. fight A.I. a million times. Having the players to be able to auto resolve is a mere bi-product.

If that was the only reason players wouldn't necessarily have access to it.

Autoresolve is definitely there so players don't have to load into a battle when they take a doomstack and attack something like a T1 minor settlement with the garrison at half strength.
