Why Do "lizardmen" look more like dinosaurs?
Is there some lore reason for this? I noticed especially the saurus that lizardmen just seem to be a name because appearance wise they look almost exactly like dinosaurs(minus the feathers). Even the skinks that are named after a real life lizard have more in common with a dino then to a lizard. Think about it, they all have "chicken legs" with three toes like t rexs, not a single species of lizard has legs like this. Saurus are even more obviously inspired by Trex. I will admit the in game kroxigors do resemble crocodiles although from what I seen the TT models do not.

So I was wondering do lizardmen actually call themselves "lizardmen" or is this a name given to them by ignorant old world explorers due to them looking some what like lizards.

Update: My question was pretty much answered already, no point commenting unless you kow more. The concept of dinosaurs doesn't exist in warhammer, thus they are lizardmen. Then believing it was stupid that lizardmen (who are the oldest race) would call themselves "men" before humans even existed I asked in the lore thread if they called themselves anything else.
Belial said, "They probably don't have a name for themselves actually, since they all see themselves as tools of the Old Ones. If they do have a name though GW never bothered to share it with us." The only way to get to the truth now would be to ask GW themselves.

Actually come to think of it the wiki says sometimes they are refered to as "cold ones" and "children of the Gods" which I think makes alot more sense for an ancient race to not be named after humans.

Well they are recreated from the tabletop game and models so you'd have to ask that to gamesworkshop.

Rule 34 looks better than other rules. I'm hoping there's a mod for rule 34 lizardmen.

Actually, there probably is.

So who's gonna make a mod to change dinosaurs into dinobots?
Lizardmen is the term given to the reptile-like creatures in the dense jungles of lustria by the magical race of humans.
Dinosaurs aren't really a concept in Warhammer Fantasy.

Stegadons, Carnosaurs and such are just big lizards in everyone's eyes.
Dinosaurs and lizards are both from the reptile family. Isn't this just splitting hairs?

Yea, that makes sense.

Thats what I was suspecting and was trying to figure out because it would be very strange for a race like the lizardmen to name themselves "men" as if they knew about humans before they even existed. I was thinking that name must have been what humans or other explorers called them. Question then is what do the lizardmen refer to themselves as or is warhammer just goofy that way. I just can't imagine a race far more ancient then humans naming themselves after a race that doesn't exist yet. LOL

So dinosaurs aren't really a thing in warhammer and humans or some other race of explorers probably named them lizardmen. Any lore experts know the truth I couldn't figure this one out by web searching it. Actually really reminds me of how europeans called native americans indians even though they didn't actually call themselves that.

Because "dinosaur" literally means "Giant lizard/reptile" in old greek . Back in the day we did not know much about dinosaurs, let alone feathers, so most paleonthologists refered to them as big lizards. Hence the name in Warhammer. Like a little omage to the inspiration. And they do look like big lizards.
Not sure why your are mixing Lore of Warhammer with our world. They draw the inspiration from it (hence the name LIZARD), but they are not "our" dinosaurs. The word dinosaur doesn't even exist in Warhammer as far as I know. So they are just giant lizard-looking people.
Why?

Well, instead of telling you in a lengthy format I'll just link a video about their GW's origins for the Lizardmen and WHY they look like dinosaurs.

What Dino-things? Only see reptile things, must die-die.
Fantasy names don't directly represent reality. This is pretty obvious and well known if you pay attention to literally any fantasy setting. Most creatures are named after something vaguely representing something close to what we have in reality.
