Peasant Mobs, Heroes, and Trebs Only as Bret
It can work with a manufacturing economy. Consider:

Each army of one lord and 19 Peasant Mobs costs only about 330 gold of upkeep (the Lord). The units are completely free (or almost completely free) to recruit.

So if you're generating 12k/turn in income, which you can do on 5 provinces (manufacturing econ) you can raise, um, 36 armies like that.

Just throw them at the enemy and eventually they'll get worn out. The peasant mobs keep them busy while your Lords do the damage.

For faster combat, subtract a dozen armies, and replace them with two armies of trebs and yeah. The mobs keep the AI busy and clustered, and the trebs rain rocks on everyone. And if some of them flee, that's alright as "we have reserves." Once you have 12 provinces, each of your mob has 24 armor, making them surprisingly tanky.

Dear Diary,

Today I played a video game! It was really exciting!

Signed,
This guy, again, I guess

This time, tbh, it wasn't a diary entry, so I find this a little misplaced. On the other hand, that could've just been put in their other thread about pretty much the exact same topic of spamming peasant with artillery.

Well, no, the previous topic was about Bret peasant mobs vs Skaven mobs: which is worse (answer: pound for pound Bret is worse. But your Lords make up for it). This one is a general strategy guide.

On the third, mutated hand- warped by the ruinous powers- this is like, the thirty-something-eth time we've been informed that, in fact, Bretonnia has artillery AND infantry as a faction, and you can combine them to achieve results, so really I don't see what makes this thread particularly interesting or thought-provoking as opposed to the previous dozens upon dozens of posts about the exact same topic making the exact same point for months.

Really, we're kinda past the point of needing to realize that Bretonnia has artillery and artillery can kill things from a long distance away.

Looks like yuzhonglu is off his meds again.
oh hello yu you're not posting something deliberately flamey for a change, that's nice of you

If you're sufficiently dedicated you can get Peasant armor to excess of 100, which.... well, they're a lot tankier than they should be XD

Yes. It snowballs. Every province that you conquer makes all your armies that much stronger. After you conquer a continent, you can be running a 1000 Mobs with over 50+ armies, each individual unit as tanky as a Chaos warrior and completely free.

Three words:
"Elite Peasant Mob."
They're actually decent. 75 leadership, 45 armor, 33 attack. 120 unit size. They're just as good as standard stormvermin units. Late game they go up to 60+ armor making them tankier then most front line infantry.

You just throw them at the enemy ranged and artillery, until they run out of ammo and winds of magic. Then you swamp them with your reinforcements. You feel like you're Stalin.

Some can dream, kinda want to see this now in the game giving them 500 hp but 200 unit size then you got a real bloody mess and dead computer.

I might try this as I'm intrigued by buffed peasants.

Trebuchets are so awful its painful to use them, however, so I'll skip those.
yuzhonglu Jan 4, 2020 @ 3:09pm
Trebs are an important part. 160 armor paladins runs into enemy battle line. Enemy all converge on the paladin heroes. Trebs annihilate everything around paladin. Life mage casts healing spells on said paladin. Peasant mobs run around soaking up fire and keeping everyone busy.

Very effective vs those Dwarven doomstacks. Purpose of paladins and peasant mobs is to get the enemy to cluster. Peasants are expendable and paladins are unkillable so they're both good "cluster baits." Then cluster bomb the area with giant rocks. Trebs are notoriously inaccurate, but inaccuracy doesn't matter when you're bombarding a cluster.

One of his better post +1 im gonna try this.
EVERYTHING Jan 4, 2020 @ 4:11pm
interesting idea, but the peasant mobs are only free when you have less then your limit of peasant. So no idea how much a mob costs, likely not that much so this may very well work but armies will cost more then you're thinking.
yuzhonglu Jan 4, 2020 @ 4:20pm
Key isn't the mobs. You add mobs to serve as buffer and to soak up ranged fire, which they're pretty good at once you get up to 30+ armor. The key tanking components are the heroes, and the key damage component are the trebs.

The only thing that can kill your fully upgraded defensive paladins (being healed by a life mage) is concentrated Dwarven fire. That's what the mobs are for. To soak up the Thunderer and cannon fire like tanky skavenslaves, and to distract the remaining dwarves away from your trebs.

Dude, I know you love your Brets, I know you love spamming peasants and trebs with them. You have been pushing for other people trying to use this strategy for months and now you just outright opened a thread to push for it even harder.

Like, rly dude... -_-

On the upside, it's great to see a thread about some positive Bret stuff for a change though. Those Bretonnia bash threads are quite high in numbers, annoying and usually wrong.
