Co-op gift units permanently?
I ask because googling gifting/sharing units in co-op is *all* talk about gifting your own units to the spectating friend for that fight only.

I'm wondering if I could say, create a war machine and put it into his lords army so it's always there for me to control. Or maybe there's a mod that allows this if it's not in the base game?

Gifting your units in battlefield for your ally to control for that battle only, so you can control 1 army with 2 players. That is what is meant when they say 'gifting'.

Yes I get that part, but is that the *only* way to gift? I can't put units directly into his army?

Correct, you cannot give him units on the campaign map even if you are both playing as the same faction (empire, skaven, dwarfs, etc).

The last game I remember where you could gift units on the campaign map was Shogun2.

That is...disappointing :/. Oh well, thanks for informing me

I wonder how gifting units will work if different factions...

Malekith: Tyrion my bruh! I'd like to gift you some Witch Elves!
Tyrion: Many thanks! They'll pair up quite nicely with my dragons.
Malekith: Yes indeed, what a fine army you have there!
Tyrion: Yes, and the next generation will be even finer!
Malekith: Next generation?
Tyrion: Yes, I will have some Witch Dragons and Dragon Elves, how cool is that?
Malekith: ... So, by pairing up you mean...
Tyrion: Yeah mate, that's what I meant.
Malekith: I ... see ... May you gift me a Frost Phoenix then?
Tyrion: Sure!
Malekith: Awesome, thank you! Now, let's see if I can get me a baby Frost Hydra...

^lol
And that's still two elves faction so it's relatively fine compared to dwarves roaming around with greenskins or lizardmen lol.

That would create stuff simmilar to rogue armies I guess, but wopuld mostly be for the lulz as that would really not be efficient; the receiver wouldn't have any tech or any skill in his lord trees boosting the received units. it's the same problem as a faction like Avelorn faces with their tree spirits being left not boosted (gosh, I wish Alarielle's skill tree or faction or whatever would be reworked to boost those units factionwide so that everyone can use them, a bit like for Arkhan).

Being a bit more serious now... Rogue armies are a pain in the ass to fight. When you see a rogue army with Ironbreakers, Organ Guns, Demigryph Knights, Sun Dragons and Waywatchers.... and that army declares war on you for whatever reason... you know you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
