game crash on brand new external SSD
i recently bought a samsung T7 external SSD for the exact purpose of having the load times shortened a bit. but the game keeps crashing at random times. sometimes on campaign map, other times on battles. in the windows event viewer though i am seeing a lot of 153 and 129 disk and UASPStor warnings.

another symptom is taht the sound cuts out and comes back some time later dumping all of the sound that was cut out all at once.

i already verified my installation and still crashed.

i ran a disk benchmark to be sure it's not my SSD that's causing this and window event viewer did NOT log these warnings, so it should be something the game is causing.

any1 know what is causing this problem or how to fix it? really don't want to go back to those long load times.

UASPStor warnings can be caused by a defective cable or controller. Try using another cable first.
i've run benchmarks and other test all who ran successfully and no warnings were in the event viewer. i'm beginning to think this may be due to an incompatibility of the game wiht the SSD itself rather than anything on my system.
you know i've never had any problems with games because they are on my external drives. this is the first time.
i don't really want to buy another SSD. besides i can't use it. that said anything else you might know that could be usefull pls tell me.

Dont run games off an external SSD or HDD. It just isn't meant to be done. Not to mention they are more expensive than internal versions.

don't run on a hdd or don't run on external hdd?
just clarifying.
i'm pretty sure he meant an external HDD. whatever. i managed to get the load times to a manageable level on my HDD. i still don't see why my game would crash (other ppl have had issues with samsung SSD's regardless of intern or extern, so i'm guessing it's an issue created with the combination of the game and the SSD. other games run fine on my external drives soooo....

I just cannot reccomemmend ever running games, especially high load games like this, off an external drive. The room for error is just too large compared to an internal.
At this point I don't know why someone would willingly run any game like this on an HDD at all, internal or external.

What is your computer hardware - specifically, what sort of USB port or other connection are you running it over?

I find that USB's at all are a source of crashes, even without running the game through one.

Hi There,
I am having very similar problems of random crashes playing Assassins Creed Valhalla from a Samsung T7. Just wondering if you ever got a solution?
Thanks,
Sean

this video fixed it for me. seems like the software that comes with the T7 is bugged and Fed up
I recommend that you try and install the game on another HD, live with the slow loading time, and confirm that it do NOT crashes anymore, to be sure that it is actually the SSD..
If it is the SSD, then new cable, new SSD, BIOS or windows setup are all options..
ahh nm then..hehe Good for you.
Thanks @Fabiaville.
I had updated the firmware already but as of yesterday I completely uninstalled the game (Valhalla) and then re-installed it directly onto the SSD (which meant it had to be downloaded again). I then played about 90 minutes without a crash so I am hopeful that it is fixed now. A few more evenings of playing without crashes will build my confidence so will post back here the outcome in case it helps others.
So, Guess what fix is in the release notes of the latest Nvidia driver :

"[Assassin's Creed Valhalla]: The game may randomly crash after extended gameplay"

Probably nothing to do with the bloody SSD after all!!!!!!
