What is best spell to snipe artillery?
1) What is the most cost effective spell and which would be the fastest?

Also,

2) As vampire counts , which spells or units units to supplement skellies to deal with nasty artillery from empire/skaven/dwarves? Unit wise I see we have bats, dogs, vargheists, probably bats are best but skirmishers will prevent them flying over.

Comet of casandora probably. As Vampire counts all you need is vargheists. Easily the best unit in their whole roster.

Comet of Casandora, in my experience, does very little. Possibly Flock of Doom? It's cheap and will get more than the one artillery squad...?

Dogs lurking out of sight in the woods, maybe bats depending on the amount of skirmishers present. Varhgeists are indeed rather good.

I've been using the classic hammer and anvil recently, so frequently it's been Black Knights recently :)

Piercing Bolts of Burning maybe? Not sure

vargheists are strong but quite expensive, the stafs and price is not required to to melee with artillery, they are an efficient unit but with the whole skelly spam a unit of those can be worth 19 skellies in cost. comet is super expensive and is a 2 shot i think? or does it wipe the unit?

Obviously I just realised Gelts intial spell only cost 1 magic and has like a 10 second cooldown, but gelt himself is not worried about artillery as will be fielding so much anyway

Menace Below but only for Skaven.

OP what you are looking for are magic missiles

fireball would probably be the best as low cooldow + cheap + low cast means you can spam and it will kill artilery pieces quite consistently

gaze of nagash is another option

basically any direct damage magic missile will do

bombardments CAN work but are usually quite expensive so dont end up trading very well

so in my opinion the answer

fireball

Spell wise fireball I guess. Cheap, spammable, long range.

Using max of its range on high lvl caster you can cast a 2nd fireball before the first one hit.

And not sure if the bug is still in but can remember spamming fireball like crazy with Dark Elf sorceress for 0 WoM and no cooldown.

1. Fireball from Lore of Fire is very good and also quite cheap. The thunderbolt spell from the Lore of the Heavens is supposed to be good too, but I haven't used it very much.

Wolves and Vargheists are probably your best bet. Vargheists are more flexible and probably better, but also more expensive and harder to get and replace.

Any combination of a missile spell and a flying mount. Characters like Eltharion for example is great at doing just that.
Green Raven Jun 23, 2020 @ 4:28pm
Thunderbolt. It does enourmous damage packed into a tiny area, usually leaving the actual engine itself wrecked. Even if the enemy regroups, there's no catapult to regroup to.

Warp lightning, BA khaine whipe, probably more these kind of spells directly destroy a model of artillery if aimed directly onto it. Spells, which make crew flee are cost inefficient and probably would even take more cast then one. So when I have a time and room to manoeuvre with spell caster without being shoted I destroy one after one which will in the end be comparable mana wise but accurate. If not, I simply send there vampires on hellsteeds followed by army and when I am there, why not give them taste some black hole, purple sun, wod spell.

Fireball, no question about it. Dirt cheap, 300m range, instakills arty models for all factions except dwarfs under runelord(or two shots single model arty like bess and HC), and is very spammable in both campaign and MP.

Flock of Doom would take so long to do anything by itself that the artillery probably would have spent all of its ammunition by the time it does anything.

Try overcasting Comet. It probably won't fully wipe the artillery, but it should nearly wipe it out and probably make them rout.

Urannon's Thunderbolt also works well. You can destroy one artillery piece per cast if cast directly on top of it. I think Doombolt will also destroy artillery pieces.

I can't really think of any lores that Vampires have access to with a good spell for this purpose, though.

1) Don't really know as I don't actually use offensive magic much.

2) I use hounds early, deployed in the corners behind their deployment waiting in forest or behind hills till I have a chance to hit the arty. Later I use vargheists.

Arrow of kurnas (sp?) does a number on them as wood elves if I recall correctly.
