It's all in your playstyle, but I find them a versatile unit and a staple for disrupting lines
When they are done they god a good Wardsave and do good dmg.
But its hard to play them. Most of all because they are in a Faction with the best Infantry vs. Infantry Unit: The Executeners. They win easy against Chosen Warriors.
Witch elves are one of those units who really need a buff. The Tabletop Version does like 500% more dmg then the Total war version. I know that would be over the top but they need some more dmg to be more useful then they are.
One thing that I have been doing is pairing them with a Hag on a Couldron. If you group 2 of them along with the hagthey can break an enemy line and either enrage them, kill them (with some help of the enrage skill from the cauldron), or route them. Hags are also good without the couldron as just an extra souped up Witch Elf if you build her right.
Yeah if you use Witchelves you need a Hag along with them. I would never use them without a Hag.
