As Luthor Harkon, can I avoid building coves?
Could I just avoid building Coves and play normally, or are coves just THAT important?

You don't need too at all. I mean, you are shooting yourself in the foot, but they aren't required.

Id say you dont need them.

But your hero cap is tied to them for mournghouls and gunnery wights. So... imo you do need them. I wouldnt want to play without mournghouls in my melee focused armies, or gunnery wighs in my artillary focused armies.

for the most part they are pretty inefficient, you are much better off expanding your empire normally. You MIGHT find yourself in a situation where you wont be able to defend a settlement then cove is better than nothing, and late game you want some of them for heroes, but you only need a few and only when you already have an empire.
You can also win with nothing but coves but as a source of income they are pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ for what you put into them

you don't need them you can play vampire coast like any other faction just conqour the world

but i will say if you play luthor. create a fleet captain hero and create covens in araby and build the buildings for the hero cap. ( those buildings doesn't give gold irc)

I am playing Harkon and im currently trying to expand and such. Darn Lizard men!

Is there any strategy to this? I can't do anything. Around turn... lets say twenty, the Lizardman above me attack. They can field twice the armies, have a better economy, and they outright demolish the Vampirates in a fight.

What is the strategy here? Im not seeing it.
