16 Shades with greatswords
3 reaper bolt throwers
Engineers Range increase buff no longer stacks btw.
Also the range buff no longer shows up on the unit card and only shows up after the battle starts, since now the range buff is an aura. I hope it's a bug and if not that they'll change it since it's kind of annoying having to guess if your ranged units will be able to hit the enemy when the battle starts.
I wish I'd started my Skryre campaign I'm playing right now before they nerfed that. I've got an army of a Warlock Master, 6 engineers and 13 Death Globe Bombardiers. They've got so much damage and attack so fast anything that gets in range of them just melts, and they've got 140 armor thanks to an engineering student on each engineer. They've got I think 102 range, would have loved to see them with 150+. Wonder if I reverted to 1.8 if the save would be broken due to the changes made to the map? Oh, they've also got over 70 speed thanks to the missile unit speed buff stacking.
In that Skryre game, other than that army I'm running Warlock Master, Warlock Engineer, Plague Priest, 4 halberd Stormvermin, 5 Ratlings, 2 Jezzails, 4 mortars and 2 Warp-Lightning Cannons.
Also going to experiment with a Warp-Grinder doomstack and a Doomwheel doomstack.
Also want to try a Rogue Idol doomstack with Wurrzag. Idea behind that is that they'll beat pretty much anything in melee while laughing at missile attacks with their 55% physical resistance and 30% missile resistance until the enemy runs out of ammo. Just need to keep them away from armies with Sisters of Avelorn or other missile units with magical ammunition.
Not likely a bug, seems pretty intentional.
Probably done just to spite LegendOfTotalWar after that doomstack video he did where someone sent him a save with a Trollhammer torpedo Irondrake doomstack with engineer stacking. Not sure why else they'd nerf it, as the point in the campaign where you're going to utilize that you've pretty much already won the campaign. Literally only nerfing fun.
A single army that can beat pretty much any single army the AI will send at you and often 2 armies at once, created without regard for the cost of said army. Often they're created from a single type of unit. Some examples of units frequently used in mono-unit doomstacks include Dragon Ogre Shaggoths, Necrofex Colossi, Stegadons (not ancient), Sisters of Avelorn, Star or Black Dragons, Royal Hippogryph Knights, Steam Tanks and Mammoths.
Dark Elves: Lord, Fire Sorceress, 2 Bolt Throwers, 16 Shades with Greatswords
Lizardmen: Slann, Saurus Scar Veteran, Skink Priest (Heavens), Skink Chief and 16 Stegadons. Heroes should have the Disciplined trait for +6 leadership and melee attack.
High Elves: Princess with Punitive trait, Light Mage, 2 Bolt Throwers and 16 Sisters of Avelorn. Or you go with the much more expensive Star Dragon doomstack. In that case you will need a Prince with the Dragon Willed trait. Throw in a Noble for extra replenishment if you want.
I don't use it since I like themed armies and it's too OP, but it's the most hilarious thing I've seen in game so far. It turns the entire battlefield into one big black smoke haze and tanks FPS.
I couldn't beat Tyrion with shades, black guards, dragon and hydras D:
Checkerboard formation. Or they have artillery I'll just take advantage of their ability to vanguard deploy and start with the enemy's deployment zone in their firing range so the enemy is under fire the moment the battle starts. Unless you mean Tyrion himself. Kill the rest of his army, or if he's unbreakable shoot him while tanking him with your lord or a hero. Just make sure you've got the right angle so your Shades aren't killing your own guy.
I have an Avelorn save where I've reduced Dragon upkeep for one lord to the point that his Star Dragons cost around 100 gold in upkeep.
5 army
What beyond 2 Hellcannons and 4 Chosen do you have? And what type of Chosen?
Shadow dart lord (preferably supreme sorceress - dark) on Black dragon + 2 hydras + 1 Kharybdiss + remaining shades with great swords.
For HE I like alarielle + 3 handmaidens + rest sisters of avelorn.
Mistwalker (tor yvress guards) doomstack with eltharion is also fun. They got unbreakable trait and has spears.
And the age old 16 chosen units + 3 hell cannons. Never gets old.
